I'm not sure what you are looking for. In my opinion, they are the best platoon/base set of rules out there. Simple command system with the ability to rate troops separately by experience and morale. Combat results are based on the experience level of the target troops. Test of Battle uses a deterministic spotting system. The basic organization of the German, British, US and Soviet divisions is in the rules along with 12 scenarios. There are other books available to expand on the US, UK and USSR units along with several books of scenarios from specific WW2 campaigns. The rules allow games of a battalion on a side for a two or four players and larger games up to division level. The order system rules out solo play. Did this help?

Thank you jekinder! If solo play is ruled out then I'll probably stick to FFoT's

You can solo play the 3rd Edition Command Decision rules, which are still in print from the publisher. No card system in that game so no need to keep a hand of cards hidden from the opponent. I play CD3 solo. I forget how orders work in TOB, but in 3rd Edition you use chits… works great for solo play. I checked out FFoT and wasn't a fan.

Thanks Achtung Minen. I've read that CD3 was a mess and ToB cleaned things up a bit. I'm probably going to look at ToB and FFoT.

What about FFoT didn't you like?

Thanks again

FFoT lacked chrome for me and felt too generic. Everyone will always say that N+1 edition "cleaned up the mess" of N Edition. Nothing new under the sun. I can confirm that all that is a complete fabrication and there is nothing messy whatsoever about CD3… it is clean as a whistle. TOB came about because a new author wanted to republish the rules without Old Glory being involved. He added a lot of his house rules in and made CD work more like other games from that mid-oughties period. It's fine if you like that sort of thing. I'll stick with CD3 and see absolutely no reason to constantly "upgrade" rulesets that work perfectly fine just because strangers online tell me I really must do so or else. It's not a new phone… it's a tabletop game!
