Hi all I've to base up a lot of 15mm figures on jungle covered bases . The bases are 40mm x 20mm . And on these there are 4 figures , so the amount of space is limited for foliage. And suggestions for foliage that gives an overall jungle effect? Cheers J |

Do bear in mind that the figures need to be easy to identify. Especially if what they are carrying(weaponing) makes a difference to the game play. Maybe make the bases as a plain crucifix with a figure on each arm. This would give a "patrol" look. The "danger" of putting a lot of scenery on the figure base is that it might look odd when the figures are on a road, bare hill et al. martin

This was the way I did it. Now bear in mind this site was some 20+ years ago! For ground cover, I used brown paper. Cheap, light, you can write on it, easy to get and easy to dispose of. Example:
My very old how-to page might be of help: link Examples: Low-cost plant (Free): link This is mostly just to use up some scraps, but it makes the point that the floor of a Jungle is mostly rotting plant bits. link This was going for a Sci/Fi freel, again almost free: link link Here some cheesy dinasour toy plants with some work will look fine: link One good lesson from this was to avoid regular shapes, the wooden puzzle pieces really worked out well to provide a wild area feel on an otherwise blank ground mat. |

I would recommend making the figure bases fairly free of jungle effects but use cheap plastic palm trees, plastic topiary and aquarium bits to create the table's jungle look. That's how I plan to tackle 10mm Vietnam. |

Maybe a very coarse green flocking. Dry brush assorted colors. I would not go higher then the waists of the troops. If your patient you could use clump flock. Good luck and post how you did it. |

I just used a medium green static grass boend for the actual infantry bases. I added some Gamers Grass shrubs to vary the height of the various vegetation. You can see my bases for 10mm here: TMP link As for the table itself, I don't think you really need to cover the whole gaming area…some various scatter or clusters of jungle vegetation should give the appropriate feel. |

You're just talking about the bases, right? A few options come to mind: (1) Paint the bases brown. You're done. Not elaborate enough? Next option: (2) Put some brown textured stuff on the bases (Vallejo paste, maybe). Dry-brush it with a different brown. You're done. Still want more? Try this? (3) Put some brown textured stuff on the bases (Vallejo paste, maybe). Paint some different brown and/or gray irregular areas. Dry-brush with a third kind of brown. This is as much as I would do at this scale for this theme. A different direction: (A) Paint each figure's base brown. Glue them to a transparent unit base. You're done! At 15mm, it's not cost-effective to detail a single figure's base with multiple colors, tufts, etc. |

I usually just flock the bases with Woodland Scenics. I have added some used dry tea leaves to the flock. This gives a little more depth and keeps the bases from looking like the Parade Ground. |

Ok … I'm going for the majority dry brush various shades of brown.. ( my usual ) then tufts .. various colours ( might need some bright green ) then occasionally little detail with aquarium plants and fallen tree trunks etc .. If I can I will post some pics Cheers J |

I would use some ground up black tea leaves or various other types of tea. The maybe add a few leaves and a little flock, but the jungles that I have been in in central Brazil have a lot of fallen foliage that has turned brown and just a few plants as very little direct sunlight gets to the ground. |
