I"ve seen a few older topics for painting drow skin. I'm very new to painting (so please forgive my lack of knowledge). I have painted several minis now & have had some pretty good success with the new Army Painter Speedpaints 2.0.

Recently I picked up the Nulzer's male/female Drow pair. I'm wondering if anyone has had good success painting Drow skin with the new 2.0 Speedpaints? Specifically, the Drow descriptions/pictures I've seen that I really like are those with a very dark (almost black) purple skin tone – or another I saw with an almost black red skin tone.

Is there a single (or a mix) of speedpaints 2.0 colors that work really well for this?

Thank you!

I have not used SpeedPaints, but I have painted some Drow figures… I went with a dark gray, rather than black. I followed that with a dark brown wash (Royal Walnut Minwax Polyshades urethane stain). I was afraid of using black skin for them, as I was unsure how to highlight them…

Then later on, I painted some 1/72 scale Anubis army figures. For these, I used a full black base coat for their skin. I followed that with a medium blue Magic Wash (Pledge Floor Gloss + Acrylic Paint), which accumulated in the recesses. I could go back and paint up my Drow using this technique. Not sure yet, what I will do with my Drow: the Drow mini's are also 1/72 scale figures, around the same size/height as the Anubis mini's; not sure if I will like them with black skin, and blue Magic Wash -- will likely do a couple of test figures to see how they look, compared to the gray skinned figures. Whichever I do not like, I will re-paint their skin the chosen color, and move forward from there.

I realize these answers are not what you were looking for, but I hope they will give you some ideas on how to approach your painting scheme. Cheers!
