Tales of Navwar's imminent demise seem to be a bit presumptuous. Several naval gamers headed to the shop this Saturday to her from Tony that (a) he's not closing down and (b) he doesn't know why people think that. The shop is still opening Saturday afternoons, and he is still working through (a great deal) of existing stock – no new castings. So he's still good for walk up and postal orders. The other good news is that he is looking to sell the business, so hopefully someone will pick it up soon so that he can get on with his well-earnt retirement.

I will look for the announcement on FB. That's where I saw it.

I have visited the shop in the last 2 weeks and from my conversations with Tony my understanding is the same as David Manley's.

As to the website, I do not think it is likely that it will return. It stated on the homepage:

"Until April 2006, we only sold by paper catalogue or by personal visit, but several of our overseas customers asked for information to be made available on the web and this site is our response. Please note that we accept orders by post or fax, but we have no e-mail facilities and regret we are unable to take telephone orders."

As I understand it from the above, the purpose of the website was to make the catalogue and order form available to online users. It was not meant to enable customers to order items or log queries.

If you want to view the website as it was, or download the last edition of the catalogue, you can use the Internet Archive.

The website is, I am told, back up and running.

Another quick update for March!

I just rang Tony up this weekend (I'm calling from the States) but hearing his voice brought back memories of being a young American masters student and, later, doctoral candidate living in London and visiting NavWar 2 weekends a month for 4 years (I bought way too many minis when I lived in the UK).

He assured me that they are still taking orders and he answered with something like 'This is NavWar, we're still here.' I told him I was checking in on the rumours and that he'd be getting my order, via post, soon!
