Good morning all. I am trying to find a good online color source for British and American uniforms during the 1980s (cold war gone hot scenarios). Any recommendations?

Also would like to know if the British infantry only wore DPM or did they ever wear solid olive drab during this period of time?

Thanks in advance.

68 Pattern DPM was standard issue from 1972 and through the 1980s.

As old China said. Coveralls remained green, so some Cav could look like they were in plain green, usually with a DPM combat jacket, except the RTRs who wore black coveralls.

One "trend" was to boil wash DPM trousers so it would not be unusual to see a two tone effect. Also folks who had been to Belize/ Hong Kong/ Brunei up to the late 80s might have the old style Jungle trousers which were a little "brighter" than temperate DPM.

However! If the balloon went up we would gave been in NBC kit from the word go and whilst there were DPM NBC suits, some might still have been in the plain green suits,

US introduced the iconic woodland camo in 1981. Prior to that was olive drab uniform. Depending on when you set the fighting and war units you use either would be appropriate

Some British territorials might have found themselves still in the olive green combats- and British paratroopers clung onto their old Denison smocks and olive green denims through the 1970s.

The US Army funded a number of uniform and equipment guides mainly identification training. A number of associated manuals covered various nations including Allie's. I was the MI S4 in the 1980s and had these on my property books along with various posters. Most are gone now. Given to friends.

So check with the Inter-library program or go to various military libraries and federal book depositories.

I have also found searching eBay and the like sales of vintage clothing can be helpful.
