I just picked up a copy of rules for the Zulu War called The Natives Are Restless. They appear more for a beer and pretels style simplistic game, and I had to do a bit of rewriting into the Queen's English.

I was curious what others think of this set of rules.

Are they written by Bob Cordery? If so, they should be pretty straight forward.

I didn't notice a listed author. The writing may have been translated into English. The publisher is Matakishi's Tea House. I found it at Wargames Vault, and it seems to be an old set of rules.

I should point out the full name of the rules are The Natives Are Restless Tonight.

I just thought to do a forum search here and found that an old member, Paul Ward of the UK, takes credit for writing the rules (he hasn't logged in since 2015).

Played those a few times for Boxer rebellion. All were neat nail biter games :)

I was more curious as to other's opinions of the pros/cons of the rules.

As you say, a bit on the beer and pretzels side. The rules are fairly simple, so it works well for a convention game. We usually did a scenario with the British defending the outpost against attacking Zulus. The British had limited ammunition but had to hold out until relief came. Relief was determined by card draw, so neither side knew when the relief column would arrive, though, since a different card had to come up first, you knew they were getting close. We tried some other scenarios that also gave us good games. at the time, were playing at a local store, and we could finish the game before they closed. I think a couple times we were able to swap sides and do a second game.

Sounds promising. I'm trying to do a game for a couple of non-wargamers, so I don't want anything too heavy.

Same rules, different name? Here is what Paul is showing for sale now.
