Who makes a 28mm Ironclad outside of Redoubt. I like the Redoubt one but I am hearing things about the company that makes me hesitate to place an order. So, is there anyone else who makes one?

I believe Sarissa does

Old Glory 25s used to. That would be worth a look or an email.

Old Glory is only listing 15mm Ironclads.

They used to make 25s as well. Call or email them and see if they have any laying around.

Eureka Miniatures USA had one but it is sold out.

And really, is there much more than an ironclad that cries for a good scratch-built project? An authentic one would look about as rough as an Old West frontier building.

There are some projects that just look like glued-together popsicle sticks, no matter how much filler you add.

Where would you get cannons for the Sarissa Precision kit?

Dowels even if supplied don't work because what do you put the dowels on?

You glue them into the gun ports?

Disco Joe11 Feb 2024 4:30 p.m. PST

If you check the link the ship doesn't have gun ports. The gun hatches are opened so you can't glue it to air.

I don't know the construction details of the kit, but you take some of the leftover scrap wood, or Balsawood, or even cardboard, cut into rectangles, paint them black, glue those to the inside of the gun ports, and glue dowels or better yet styrene tubes to that. If you wanted a little depth you could use some more material to make the rectangles more like box lids.

Sarissa has a Monitor and Virginia. They also make a sort of cross between the Albemarle and an armored river gunboat.

What sort of ironclad are you looking for. I have made a couple of dozen in "28mm". They are more like a cartoon of an ironclad rather than a proper scale model. I have done pre-dreadnoughts

and ACW style boats as well
