"On the last day of the year I finished painting the Westphalian Cuirassier Regiment, No 4 for the Franco-Prussia War army. Originally founded in 1717 the regiment fought in the Silesian War under Frederick and was heavily engaged in the Revolutionary Wars of the 1790s. It fought at Jena and was disbanded in 1807. Reformed after 1815 the regiment was engaged in 1866 and formed a part of von Barby's brigade in 1870. As 4th Westphalian Cuirassier Regiment, "von Driesen" it went to war in 1914 attached to VII Corps. It was disbanded in 1919…"
