" I continue to rate the Volley and Bayonet rules as my all time fave wargames rules set. Amongst the reasons I hold that view is the fact that small subtle 'tweaks' to mechanisms completely change the flavour of the game, enabling the rules wet to very nicely reflect changes in warfare across it;'s 200 year time period 1700-1900.

Beautiful miniatures for a horrible war. But then, it's just a game.

Were there wars that weren't horrible?

Thanks Armand. Always glad to see any postings involving Latin American history. Such an "ignored" but important region of our planet.

All wars are indeed horrible but The War of the Triple Alliance almost cut the Paraguayan population by at least a third. The motivations were also quite stupid. The WWI Western Front is equally unpalatable as are several others. I'm not suggesting it should not be gamed, but the more you learn about wars, the less appealing they are to me. This said, keep gaming!

Motivation… at the end … was money and commerce… as mostly of the reasons of wars…

It was the biggest and worst in South America …

Paraguayan male population was near to desapear…

Agree Tango. And the weird personality cult around the Paraguayan dictator, whom, to paraphrase Cervantes: "De cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme. "

Francisco Solano Lopez was very controvertial… but no one can deny his immense courage… his death, sword in hand and refusing to surrender already very badly wounded, is something to admire… to make matters worse, his young teenage son also died trying to defend his mother from the Brazilian soldiers… It was a tragic war for this part of the world.
