I need Danish and Norwegian terms for "Space Navy," "Space Force," or whatever term works, makes sense, or sounds cool. Can anyone help? |

I do like Romflåten. A little off but maybe Rumstyrke. I prefer one word instead of two like the English terms. |

According to google, Romkrigere is Norwegian for Space Warriors, and Romforsvarere is Space Defenders. |

They sound like great separate names for "Marines" and "Navy." |

Looking for input from native Danish and Norwegian speakers only. So Google is out. |

Not a Norwegian speaker but you might consider a less literal phrase. For example, in some of Jack Vance's SF novels, the space force was called The Whelm, from the root word of "overwhelm". I put "The Whelm" into Google translate to Norwegian and got "Hjulen" which appears to mean "The wheel". And I tried "overwhelm" and got "overvelde" from which is "velde" which means "rule". So this example is probably not specifically what you're looking for, but it still may help to think outside the box. |

The Danes call their navy Søværnet. Google Translate says that literally means The Navy in English. I ran a Star Frontiers campaign for a while and honestly I thought Space Fleet and Land Fleet were just plain stupid names, so I renamed them. Space Fleet became The United Planetary Federation Navy while Land Fleet became The United Planetary Federation Army. Those were their "official" names, but everyone simply called them the Navy and the Army. Simple and easy. Give it a go- call it the Søværnet. Oh, they call the army Hæren which means, yup you guessed it, the army. |

Søværnet is literally "the sea defense" – Google is giving you an idiomatic translation – so possibly not suitable for a spaceborne force. |

It does sound like a native speaker is needed, which probably should have been in the thread title. Or even the target languages… Anybody know Sandi Tokvig? Doug |

A Dane joined my D&D group, so I'll ask him. |
