Thyra is a "lost race" novel by Robert James Bennett published in 1903. It appeared during the golden age of polar exploration. In a similar vein as "Island at the Top of the Wold," the story concern a small expedition to the North Pole that discovers a population of Norse still following the Norse pantheon. The Norse have split into two societies; the Runefolk that have a "republic" and the Thorlings that are warlike and follow a king. Both factions are menaced by the "Dwerger," a surviving horde of archaic hominids. The Thorlings worship the Orm, a great serpent in the guise of a mosasaurus. Other prehistoric life include giant long-horned bison, mammoths, and pterodactyls. The action moves by at a fast pace. link |

I agree. I'm surprised it is still in copyright. |

It was published in 1901 and he died in 1954, so by US copyright law as of next year, it's not (copyright is death of the author plus 70 years) |

Yes! Vikings and early 20th century intrepid explorers vs Neanderthal cannibal with a Mosasaurus down in the well of Orm. |
