The First Ammendment is still with us. And it is still first. Disagree with the protestors, but if you jail them for speech, they will become martyrs.
Didn't say that … only if they go from protests to riots. Which pretty much happened almost every time. Yes burning, looting, attacking LEOs etc. IS NOT PEACEFUL. That has nothing to do with freedom of speech, or the rights of PEACEFUL protests and assembly.

I thought as much, but I did not entirely get it from your last post, Legion. I don't doubt your commitment to the Constitution. I agree that law and order is vital. I have mixed feelings about the use of military force in civil matters, but I have seen it done long ago as a kid and still feel that anxiety.

Millions marched without incident last week. They are protesting what most of the country is concerned about – the expansion of unilateral presidential powers without accountability. I think the right knows this is an issue, but will not stand up. Fear of losing re-election, getting on the retribution list, the IRS, or having the Justice Department go after you. Fox would lose millions of viewers and dollars. The right still brings up Biden with a straight face while looking the other way when the same things are done in their name. Thus the divide, IMO.

Tort they may have been portrayed as being peaceful, but in multiple areas that was not true.

There is only one common thread in all these protests, blind hate of Donald Trump. Palestinian flags, anti Israel chants, rainbow flags, trans rights, flags of every country south of the border, pro Hamas, pro gender surgery, pro Iran….. only one common thread.

There are no ideas coming from the other side. Just hate of anything he does and Trump himself.

That is truly sad.

There is a lot of hate and it is sad. He has angered so many people. Yet he does have some good ideas. His personal style and narcissism turn many people off.

That the marches were mostly peaceful is true for last Saturday at least. It was everyday people who wanted to have their say. There were nine gatherings across my mostly rural county, several thousand people, no problems.

Tort, about their fear of absolutism.

Did not these same people allow a government :
to force people to take a vaccine that was unproven, fairly useless and now showing signs of long term negative effects?
To force people to use masks that were just as useless?
To force the closing of schools, churches and businesses and damage the economy. Again to no advantage.
To send police through the streets to force people to stay in their homes? (Minnesota)
To not allow individuals to be with dying loved ones for no reason?
To allow an individual to control the highest office when he was not in the mental state to do so? Because the alternative might allow Hitl.. Trump in office.
These same individuals called for those who would not wear the mask or take the shot, to be imprisoned. To lose their jobs.

Just a small sample… now this to me, this threatens our constitutional rights and is pure absolutism.

Thoughts?

I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution a long time ago. And I have not resigned my commission. And don't plan to. Also note the district court following the Constitution told Newsom the POTUS has the power to federalize the CA NG plus sent active-duty forces[USMC in this case, to protect Federal structures, Federal personnel, etc. Newsom will probably want to take it to the SCOTUS.

But generally speaking, Federal Authority, Powers, etc. always trumps state.

Just like in 2020, many in Congress, the far left, liberal communists/socialists/globalists, intellectual academics, anarchists, etc. are supporting these riots[ these are not peaceful protests].

The support not only comes from useful dupes, inside the USA, e.g. Soros, Arbella, NGOs, leftist organizations in the USA. But also from laundered funds from China, Russia, islamists, etc. from the outside of the USA.

Hmmm ? Almost sounds like a world war ?

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP21 Jun 2025 12:29 p.m. PST

There were riots in LA. The left acknowledges this. But Trump, or maybe its the VP, is not telling the truth about LA and the extent of the damage. Trump is vague about a number of things. His update on the ME "Israel is doing well, Iran is doing less well."

Yes the Prez can legally take command of the NG and it has happened before, though not for a long time. My friend in LA tells me the riots are exaggerated to "get" CA, the whole state is on the retribution list! Kind of like MA.

It felt like a political show to me, though it was a legal act. But the first thing people said was "yea but what what happened with Trump on Jan 6 with the NG?" It was the ultimate federal property being occupied, provoked by high level officials, led by militia, scared the !@#$ out of everybody until they were forced to deny it or face primary elections. Like it or not, the CA NG was not a great choice by the Prez in the case of LA from a political standpoint.

The use of the Marines was all show – and something that is not done at this level of disturbance. It should be questioned in this case, IMO.

Now keep in mind, this is just LA

"The recent protests in Los Angeles, primarily against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, have resulted in nearly $20 USD million in costs to the city. These costs include police overtime, repairs to damaged city buildings, and other expenses.
Here's a breakdown:
Police Costs:
The Los Angeles Police Department has spent approximately $16.9 USD million, with $11.7 USD million going towards police overtime, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Vandalism Repairs:
Damage to City Hall, the LAPD headquarters, and other city buildings cost $780,601 USD, reports The Los Angeles Times.
Other Expenses:
The total cost includes additional expenses for street cleaning and other city services. "

From the LA times yesterday

"According to updated data from the Los Angeles City Controller's Office, as of June 20, the total cost of the city's response to the protests has reached more than $32 USD million."

Do the "mostly protesters" pay? 🙄

Nope the uninvolved, "working" taxpayers pay.

NYC

"While specific damage cost figures for the current protests in NYC are not available, past protests in the city, especially those related to the George Floyd demonstrations, have resulted in significant financial losses, including millions of dollars in property damage, increased law enforcement costs, and legal settlements. The current protests, particularly those related to the "No Kings" movement and anti-Israel demonstrations, have also caused damage, with one instance at City College leading to $3 USD million in damages and security costs.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Past Protests (2020):
The George Floyd protests in NYC resulted in significant property damage, with New York Post reporting over 450 businesses damaged and looting incidents costing the city millions. The NYPD's overtime costs alone reached $721 USD million in 2020, a sharp increase from the previous year.
Current Protests:
The "No Kings" protests, which include a large parade, are estimated to cost between $25 USD million and $45 USD million.
Anti-Israel protests have resulted in damage at City College, with costs estimated at $3 USD million for damage and extra security.
The New York Public Library faced a $75,000 USD cleanup bill after being defaced during a protest.
Economic Impact:
The protests, regardless of the specific cause, have a broader economic impact on the city, including disruptions to businesses, potential loss of tourism, and increased expenses for law enforcement and legal settlements. For example, the Middle East Forum reported that protests can cause significant economic harm to businesses, with potential legal remedies available.
Insurance Costs:
The Insurance Information Institute notes that civil unrest, like the protests following George Floyd's murder, can lead to substantial insurance losses, potentially reaching billions of dollars.
Legal Costs:
In addition to physical damage and cleanup costs, protests often result in legal battles, with New York City having paid out millions of dollars in settlements and legal fees related to police actions during the 2020 protests. "

Since I knew this would come next. 😉

"The cost of damage from the January 6th Capitol attack is estimated to be at least $2.73 USD million in property damage, according to government estimates. This figure primarily covers repairs and clean-up costs related to the physical damage to the Capitol building itself. Additionally, there are ongoing costs associated with enhanced security measures implemented after the attack, such as fencing and other security upgrades. While some rioters have been ordered to pay restitution for damages, the total cost to taxpayers remains significant. "

"While some rioters have been ordered to pay restitution, they have only covered a small fraction of the total cost"

Of course lots were in prison, so rough to pay from there. Prison is not a problem for those out there currently or from 2020. 😉

Of course most of January 6th are out now, maybe time served substitutes for the money. 😉

I say! Send all the protesters into poverty. Maybe bring back indentured servitude, if they can't pay! They can clean those toilets and pick those crops that all those illegals being shipped home were doing. 😂🤣

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP21 Jun 2025 3:13 p.m. PST

Police overtime is not really that relevant 35th. Its built into every budget. it can be incurred for many other things, including golf. Trumps golf is said to have cost 26 million with Secret Service actually paying his own properties to stay there. While I don't begrudge him some recreation, nearly a quarter of his days in office have included golf. This affects local police as well.

Then there was the Army parade…same day as No Kings. Looks like they cost about the same somehow! Free speech IMO. I didn't agree with either event, but free speech may actually cost money to protect both the speech and the public.

SBminisguy21 Jun 2025 8:35 p.m. PST

There is a lot of hate and it is sad. He has angered so many people. Yet he does have some good ideas. His personal style and narcissism turn many people off.

And why is that? Everybody LOVED Trump before 2016! Trump was a moderate New York Democrat before he changed party and became a Republican. He donated to Democrats like Bill Clinton and Jesse Jackson. They invited him to their fundraisers, parties and weddings as both a successful businessman and TV celebrity. He was recognized for his work in helping minority owned businesses and the Black community with an NAACP Rosa Parks award. He was also recognized by Jewish groups for his support of the Jewish Community and desegregating his golf resorts -- and his daughter, son-in-law (and key advisor) and many grandkids are Jewish. He was a frequent guest on TV shows like The View and the Oprah Show, and they always treated him with smiles.

All that changed when he ran against Hillary Clinton. At first he was treated like the comic relief, oh that cheeky Trump, he's good for ratings! Then he got traction. Then they freaked out when he won the GOP Nomination and started to perform well against Hillary. They knew they couldn't run against actual Trump -- a moderate Democrat turned moderate Republican, so they reinvented Trump from the outside.

Like a switch had been flipped the Democrats and allied media turned on him and used all their resources to paint him as a racist, misogynist, fascist reincarnation of Adolf Hitler! They rewrote history, took quotes and media appearances out of context and highly edited to make Trump seem like a horrible racist.

He's not. Never was.

Nope … the POTUS has the authority to use active-duty forces to protect Federal property, personnel. etc. Even important parts of infrastructure if need be.

I've said, this before. At times when I was in the 101 we trained for riot control duty. And of course, the POTUS remembers the summer of 2020. He depended on the mayors and Governers to do their job. But we see most of them were impotent. And city blocks burned, etc. He was not going to let that happen again …

I didn't agree with either event,
Celebrating the Army's 250th Birthday … what is not to agree with ? The cost ? After all the $ the Biden Admin wasted on many things that didn't help Americans. E.g. a lot of $ went to overseas LGBTQ groups. The Green Agenda which proved to be a bust …

SB true. Trump was the medias, Democrats and Hillary's perfect opponent. Go back and watch a montage of all the majority media shows before the election of 2016. Trump win??? 🤣😂😅 It was the big joke to them.

They had done their job. Concentrating on him during primaries, building him up and destroying his opponents. They all thought they were so clever. But they gave him the press and what he said and what he did, appealed to "Joe Average". He wins and the media and Democrats went to pieces, on the air no less.

"This isn't possible!!", ""We are smarter than they are!!", "We are the enlightened! We know what's best for them!!" "Armageddon!!"😭😱

They took no chances in 2020.

Based on the recent Mayoral Primary in NYC. With the worst candidate possible winning commandingly. If he does become Mayor. He will make the Chicago, LA, Portland, etc. mayors look almost middle of the road conservatives.

And what is even more concerning, there are many in Congress that support these types. Nor do any of them should be in not leadership positions at any level.

With this going on in a number of places in the US. ACW 2.0 may be Blue Sanctuary cities and states vs. the rest of the USA.

Legion have you gone out and read what that guy wants to do? He dislikes Israel and is also indo-Ugandan Muslim immigrant. He has tried to moderate his remarks on Israel since starting his campaign.

"Running as a democratic socialist"

"Zohran was born in Kampala, Uganda, and moved to New York as a kid with his mother, the celebrated director Mira Nair, and father, the renowned scholar Mahmood Mamdani."

"According to the Associated Press, he became naturalized as an American citizen a few years after graduating from college, where he co-started his school's first Students for Justice in Palestine chapter. "

"Zohran Mamdani, who claimed victory in NYC's Democratic mayoral primary on Tuesday, previously vowed to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited the city."

"He has also advocated for defunding the city's police department, defended pro- Palestine slogans like 'globalize the intifada' and said he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He has vowed to 'fight back' against president Donald Trump, saying that he is the Republican's 'worst nightmare' because he is a 'progressive, Muslim immigrant who actually fights for the things I believe in'."

"In his victory speech given late Tuesday night and attended by lefty celebrities like actress Cynthia Nixon, actor Kal Penn and Kamala Harris' stepdaughter Ella Emhoff, he referred to Trump as a fascist to cheers from the crowd.

'We have won because New Yorkers have stood up for a city that they can afford. A city where they can do more than just struggle. And it is where the mayor will use their power to reject Donald Trump's fascism,' he said."

"Mamdani wants to spend $65 USD million in taxpayer funds for a transgender treatment facility, including for minors, if elected.

His campaign site says his administration would also form its own Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs."

Basically he promises, "bread and circuses". In The model of the typical socialists. Endorsed by AOC and Bernie.

In here are some of his promises.

Trump calls these people names all the time and has for years. MAGA doesn't get to complain about leftwing extremists and not take heat for some of their equally crazy views – like defunding the FBI and ripping any federal agency that doesn't support right wing views, and that's the tip of the iceberg. Both extremes are not all bad, sometimes seem nuts.

I don't much care what happens in NYC, it's like a city state there in some ways, run by wealthy financial people who don't care about either party. Nothing will come of most of this talk, iMO, just as some of Trump's crazier comments have been taken with a grain of salt.

Tort my post had nothing to do with Trump. I was including a quote that had Trump in the comment. The point of the post is, everything this man promises is 3rd world socialism. Very similar to what the head of Venezuela promised. These promises, are the same promises that the politicians in Rome used to garner votes, when they didn't pay for them. This man is against the basics of our form of government. His voting block were young rich white liberals (those in the streets), mostly women and new "immigrants", many coming from socialist countries. What is AOC and Bernie!? I've even heard this guy is way past socialist.

Get past Trump… this IS the type of politician that WILL bring our government to an end. The media is telling everyone Trump is the danger… NO this is the danger.

In 3 years Trump will be gone. These type of politicians are becoming more prevalent in blue areas. They don't like our country and in some cases the main religion of the country.

🤔 Hmmm…. Ok so I am sure we're equally upset by:

"Affordable Care Act (ACA) promises: Perhaps the most well-known instance is the claim that individuals could keep their existing healthcare plans if they liked them, a promise that was contradicted when some plans were dropped due to not meeting the ACA's new standards. PolitiFact.com designated this as the "Lie of the Year" in 2013.

Benghazi attack: The Obama administration initially attributed the attack on the U.S. consular outpost in Benghazi to an inflammatory YouTube video, which was later found to be inaccurate.

Syrian chemical weapons "red line": Obama stated he set a "red line" regarding the use of chemical weapons by Bashar al-Assad in Syria, but later claimed he hadn't, according to the New York Post.

Economy and job creation: Critics have questioned Obama's claims about the number of manufacturing jobs created during his presidency and the impact of the stimulus package on the economy.

Personal history: Author Jack Cashill has argued that Obama has embellished or misrepresented aspects of his personal history and political philosophy."

Or
"I did not have sex with that woman"
"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."

"The Jones Lawsuit:
Paula Jones sued Bill Clinton for sexual harassment. During the legal proceedings, Clinton denied having a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

Monica Lewinsky Scandal:
It was later revealed that Clinton did indeed have a sexual relationship with Lewinsky, a White House intern. This relationship became public knowledge and led to the impeachment proceedings.

Perjury Charges:
Clinton's initial denial in the Jones case, despite the subsequent revelations, led to charges of perjury (lying under oath).

Obstruction of Justice:
In addition to perjury, Clinton was also accused of obstruction of justice, as his actions were seen as an attempt to conceal the truth about his relationship with Lewinsky. "

Or

Justifying a war that had probably more to do with insults from Iraq about Daddy Bush. (This one cost me a close relative).

"Iraq War Justification:
A central point of contention is the claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and posed an imminent threat to the United States. Critics argue that Bush administration officials, including the President himself, repeatedly made statements about Iraq's WMD programs that were not supported by evidence at the time and were later acknowledged as inaccurate.

Alleged Ties to Terrorism:
Another area of criticism involves the Bush administration's assertion that Saddam Hussein's government had strong ties to al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. Critics argue that these claims were exaggerated or fabricated to link the Iraq War to the broader "War on Terror". "

Even I won't list those of the Biden administration. Too long. 😉

Sorry couldn't resist guys. 🙂

Yes Tort the guy in NYC is scary. He gets elected, he appoints leadership of all departments. It would be hard to believe the future elected city officials would would not be of the same political bent.

I know Wall Street was upset about it yesterday.

Of course I thought the Broxo gal was ridiculous. But Davy's name sake, who sounds and looks like she should be on a Black sitcom. Or in jail, certainly not in Congress … None of them are leaders just activists who want their 15 mins of fame.

AOC vs MTG, on and on…. I don't think we should continue to list the issues..there is more consensus than you might think about the dumb things both sides have said and done. Obama Care vs Concept of a Plan. Lewinsky and Jones vs Daniels and the Maples. It is endless.

How many heard this? Well of course he wants credit, it was signed under his administration. How anal of him!!??😱 😉 of course it may be broken. How often do these African peace treaties hold? I'm not holding my breath.

But! He made the effort and got them to sign. Did the last administration get any peace or ceasefire deals done?

I read many articles, most granted it happened…BUT immediately put the negative spin on it.

Trumps deal with China on rare earth minerals is a plus for him. But it probably won't help his latest poll numbers. There are deals going on all the time, some are great, some flops. The only thing certain is media bias.

FWIW Canada was one of the top 5 NATO members in arrears … only paying 1.3 GDP. If the reports are correct … and I think they are. I hope that changes.

The guy just reeks of being a smarmy weasel -- and reminds me sooo much of this guy…Harry Ellis the fatally stupid cheesy salesman from Die Hard…

Yeah … it really is a bit disconcerting that someone running for mayor of NYC has a background such as his.

*Anti-Semitic

*islammist

*Communist, who is known for calling for a worldwide intifada

*anti-West

*anti-American

*Racist

*anti-Capitalist

*Pro-Hamas

*Will not work with ICE, etc.

*Father is Marxist teaching at Columbia, who assisted in anti-Jewish riots there

*Mother is a producer in Hollywood who seems to be not to well accepted by some others for her views, etc.

*At least that is what the reports say. As well as some in the Dem party, leftists, woke progressives, etc. are supporting him whole heartedly … no need to mention names. It is all the usual suspects …

What could possibly go wrong ?

However, I think reality will come about, even for a place like NYC. With a large Jewish population, of about 12%.

Zohran is another dang Theatre Kid who was groomed into politics. Btw, some digging shows this dude is backed by Union radicals and, yep, the Soros Open Society Foundation via a web of front groups.

Zohran's key backers include:

1. The Working Families Party (WFP) (linked to The Open Society Foundation)

2. The SEIU

3. The UAW. Why the United Auto Workers union? Because MOST of UAW's members ARE NOT FACTORY WORKERS! I didn't know this, but as the auto industry lost jobs the UAW shifted into unionizing Academia and Healthcare! It now is the single largest Union for Academics, with the Academic Workers Union and PostDoc Workers Union under its wing.

4. ACORN

5. The Communication Workers of America (CWA) union

6. Other groups backing him include a Who's Who of the Progressive/Left Establishment: Center for Popular Democracy, Color of Change, Demos, Working Families Organization, Alliance for Youth Action, Justice Democrats

7. The above list of groups receives their backing from The Open Society Foundation (Soros), the Ford Foundation, the Tides Foundation and others.

So they are trying to create a new Obama using Zohran as their malleable, well spoken theatre kid.

1. He was a failed rap singer and stage performer who became a Community Organizer on the Left

2. He was then selected by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the Working Families Party to run against an aging Democrat incumbent in a safe Democrat district. They explicitly wanted to replicate the "AOC and The Squad" model and helped him get elected at age 28.

3. Now at age 33 these groups have been joined with the backing of the major Progressive/Left Establishment power structure to get him elected as mayor of NYC.

Never underestimate the politics of envy and the appeal of bread and circuses. 😔

I am not a big fan but I don't think he is really all of these things. I would not vote for him but he is entitled to his opinions just as people are entitled to their votes. If there is some hard evidence that he is a racist, rather than anti-Israeli because of Gaza,I guess I did not hear it. What little I know of his policy ideas does not seem like an evil threat, just not my thing. Progressive, yes. But we used to make progress here, and now we don't as much.
