I'm not sure who could fix this. Why not the DOJ ? A real DOJ that supports the law …

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP16 Jun 2024 10:22 a.m. PST

Each side tries to politicize the DOJ. Retribution is coming? We believe different stories. No trust. No answer for now.

We must await the outcome in Nov.

Nine pound round17 Jun 2024 5:29 a.m. PST

Someday, historians will create a term – probably something like "The Wars of Karl Marx" – to describe the period that starts in the early 1930s. It's tapering off, but I hope it is never said to extend to cover a second American Civil War- but if that happens, it will definitely be included.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2024 6:54 a.m. PST

I don't feel like November will resolve anything. More like a trigger as the rhetoric keeps ramping up. As in 1860, but without the kind of candidate character, integrity, competence to eventually get us out of this. With a system that has been corrupted. And a high tech media jungle of misinformation.

Nine, I think I get it. But maybe not, Marx was a slog for me to read in college. Too much for my limited understanding and patience. I thought it became a handy cover for totalitarianism, not a workable system. There are haves and have-nots, plenty of dictators, and elites who exploit it. That never tapers off, IMO. I understand conflicts like the War of Jenkins Ear much better. The French and English kept it simple…

Nine pound round17 Jun 2024 7:45 a.m. PST

No. What I am saying is, the rise of Marxist habits and styles of thought, which first corrupted European polities before spreading to the remainder of the world, are at the bottom of our problems. Because those styles and habits are cultural, and extend far beyond merely political positions of parties, they have a deep influence on habits and conduct of individual participants. Those attitudes have spread widely throughout the world, and are not done causing us problems. Since the end of the Cold War, the official encouragement by the Soviet Union has ceased, but Marxist philosophies are nevertheless propagated by those who have bought into them, so that Marxist techniques of analysis and habits of thought infect most of our institutions.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2024 8:41 a.m. PST

How about a Marxist example? We do a lot of socialist things in this country, farm subsidies, federal aid for all kinds of things, Medicare, industry bailouts, etc. Education maybe? Or I am just not getting these labels?

Nine pound round17 Jun 2024 8:55 a.m. PST

No. I'm not here to explain myself to you.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2024 9:56 a.m. PST

It appears we have a unique monstrosity in this paradigm. Marxist-islamo fascists … Both things the West does not want alone … but together … The US and the West has a lot of work to do. A lot of work. But it starts with again … wait for it … strong capable dynamic intelligent leaders. From the top down …

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2024 11:30 a.m. PST

Nine, I was asking about you, really. I honestly do not get where Marxism is taking over, not sure what it means these days. So I asked. That's all.

Nine pound round17 Jun 2024 12:28 p.m. PST

I'm not particularly surprised, but not very interested in fixing the problem, either. Why don't you just stifle me?

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2024 12:48 p.m. PST

Nine, Okay, believe or not the above was a typo. I was NOT asking about you but about Marxism. Talk about shooting my self in the foot.. very sorry.

My world does not hang in the balance, but there was no need for us to keep doing this. I was interested in where Marxism is, what it is from your perspective. I have read the Heritage Foundation's report as a starter, short on detail and specific examples. Broad based assumptions. If I accept that Marxism is no longer about economics but about identity politics, I am still not getting it.

Every college student I have encountered in the last few years is a determined capitalist. I wish I was making a tenth the money they are. They are tech savvy but could not tell you the first thing about Marxism. Or anything that happened more than a few years ago. Or politics.

SBminisguy17 Jun 2024 1:45 p.m. PST

Since the end of the Cold War, the official encouragement by the Soviet Union has ceased, but Marxist philosophies are nevertheless propagated by those who have bought into them, so that Marxist techniques of analysis and habits of thought infect most of our institutions.

I call it Zombie Socialism. The two leading Socialist Movements (Fascism and Communism) started the most destructive war in human history, and Communism was victorious. Communism then proceeded to kill as many as 100 Million people before the leading Communist nation, the USSR, fell in 1991. During the Cold War the Soviets expended large resources on the ideological capture of the Western Intelligensia -- and they succeeded! Zombie Socialism has clawed its way out of the grave, and mutated from Marxism to neo-Facism just as seamlessly as Maoism morphed into Fascism. So now we face global internationalist Fascism that infects our leading governmental and civic insitutions. They may even still call themselves "Communist" or "Socialist" or "Democratic Socialist" but their *actions* are classically Fascist.

Here's an example of modern Fascism – the intersection of the State and Big Corporations and Big Labor. Since Nike embraced leftist political positions and adopted Kaepernick as a brand ambassador, protesting the US and the American flag and supporting BLM, Nike has not been the subject of organized political protests against its sweatshop abuses. Democrats and Leftists in Congress even went so far as to block a bill that would penalize Nike and other companies for using Chinese Slave Labor to produce products!
So basically the Left intimidated Nike until it caved and adopted its positions – and now it is an "approved" company that spouts the Leftist party line and is no longer attacked.

And then there's My Pillow Guy. A private businessman who criticized the 2020 election and funded his own review of the election (which is really non-binding). The Biden Admin used the power of the State to harass and punish him. He was subjected to IRS audits and investigations, an FBI investigation was launched against him, the FEC filed against him for election interference, the Biden admin supported Dominion's lawsuit against him and was part of a coordinated media attack and commercial boycott of his products. He was personally bankrupted by this coordinated effort to punish a prominent dissenter, and the company may also go into bankruptcy.

We see this kind of tactic being used across the economy, and it's in your face Fascism.

Nine pound round17 Jun 2024 3:09 p.m. PST

Please. Stifle. Me.

How much clearer can I be? I'm not interested in your continual stream of questions, and I'm not going to answer them. I'm not here to explain myself to you, or to remedy your problems of comprehension. I don't want to deal with your mischaracterizations of my comments or arguments, and I am also not interested in having you slather every page with attempts to get my attention. You threatened to leave multiple times, to my enthusiastic agreement, but didn't.

The best solution is: just stifle me. Then I will not have to be bothered anymore. Really, it's not too much to ask.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP17 Jun 2024 3:30 p.m. PST

Nine: Explaining yourself is not what I asked, or meant to ask. I am not going any where, I do take the occasional break. As far as I am concerned, you are dealing with yourself. If you make a comment and I am interested, I will comment. I don't think people here consider me the rabble rousing @#$& that you may. I have a genuine interest I what people say here.

Notice I did not take the bait on your law enforcement observations. Slathery will get you nowhere. As far as I am concerned we are starting over. Do what you have to do.

SB, here's an interesting article my son sent me, which is an interesting practical example of the points you're making: the Army wanted to use anthropologists in waging war in Afghanistan, but the effort was nipped in the bud by academic peer pressure. That wasn't the only issue, of course, but it was a big one.

@Nine pound round – very interesting article, what it describes makes total sense for *any* conflict! We had sociologists, cultural and language experts helping anticipate how the Japanese would act during the war and guiding US policy. In particular, the judgement NOT to bomb Kyoto or the Imperial Palace, and NOT targeting the Emperor, as being a cultural step too far given the ultimate goal was forcing Japan to surrender.

It seems these programs were very successful, and then the American Academic Left denounced it and began to attack and destroy the careers of those involved: "The American Anthropological Association Executive Board issued a statement denouncing the Human Terrain System and all its works."

This kneejerk reaction probably cost thousands of lives.

SBminisguy13 Jul 2024 9:39 p.m. PST

Assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

So many questions that need to be answered. The shooter was able to position himself with a clear line of sight on Trump from a rooftop just 400 feet away, and it was only Trump turning to the right to look at a Jumbotron that resulted in the bullet grazing his ear instead of taking right in the head.

Look how close this guy got!

That's not my image, but you can look at the sight on google maps. Butler Farm Show, 625 Evans City Rd, Butler, PA 16001

link

1. Why was the rooftop not secured? There aren't very many roofs around with line of sight!

2. Why no Drones in the air spotting possible danger?

3. Some bystanders SAW the man crawling up the back side of the roof and tried to alert local police and Secret Service. There gestures and pointing caught the attention of the Secret Service sniper team, allowing them to respond quickly and take down the shooter -- but they did not spot him until he shot first.

This was a massive security failure, and the exit seemed slow and fumbled -- not at all as quick as when Reagan was evacuated after he was shot.

I suspect the shooter will be revealed to have ANTIFA ties, or ties to another Leftist group.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2024 4:22 a.m. PST

Shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks.
His address shows him as a registered Republican. He had donated $15 USD dollars to a Democratic fund group. He was wearing a tee shirt of some gun show. From Bethel township. 20 years old. Probably already yanked his Facebook and other accounts already.

About all I can find so far.

Worth a listen before someone yanks it. He asked my question: why was the Secret service or police, watching that roof?

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2024 4:45 a.m. PST

Not good to jump to conclusions, IMO. The guy is said to be a registered Republican, but at 20 years old, he is not likely a seasoned pol. Thank God Trump turned his head when he did.

This is not like Reagan the President getting shot at close range, more like Bobby Kennedy, another candidate,IMO. Security may not be as tight for candidates. but Trump is an ex Pres. Given the inflammatory nature of the campaigning and suggestions of political violence, security has to change ASAP. I agree, how did this guy get into position unseen? The conspiracy theories will spring up in no time.

Re civil war….There are major plans in the GOP for contesting election results via courts, more power for local officials, etc. That's fine. But political violence, while not unknown to us, is never going to solve any problems or help the country reunite.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2024 5:06 a.m. PST

He had voted only in the 2022 election according to sources.

Trump had asked for additional security for awhile according to sources. Government sources deny that. We will have wait to see which is true.

The $15 USD dollar donation was to "Act Blue".

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2024 5:41 a.m. PST

Maybe a mentally ill attention seeker. Both candidates will now get more security, I hope. The convention will be a nightmare of worries this week for every branch of enforcement.

Trump must have been worried, rightly so, to ask for more security. If he did, there surely would have been a response in such a high profile matter.there is going to be a lot of this kind of thing. Every social media site is a weapon, blame, theories will take center stage.

Already Biden being blamed in Congress. Here we go….

Well…Biden did say we need to "target trump" and other leading democrats have said they need to "take him out." After 8 years of violent rhetoric and fear-p0rn aimed Trump, it's sadly surprising this didn't happen earlier.

And the Establishment press hasn't exactly been at their finest in this -- many of the initial headlines on CNN and MSNBC tried to pretend there wasn't an assassination attempt. CNN's headline read "President's Speech Interrupted by Secret Service." I think MSNBC said "President Falls, Escorted Off Stage by Secret Service." This prompted the Babylon Bee and other satirists to put out their own dark humor headlines:

"Trump Speech Interrupted by Mostly Peaceful Assassination"

"Party That Called Trump 'Hitler' For 8 Years Shocked As Someone Tries To Assassinate Him"

"CNN: 'Clumsy Trump Hits Head On Bullet'

"Trump Indicted For Inciting Assassination Attempt"

Notice, the group of people proclaimed as being the violent MAGAs who are in the hills preparing their militias, well as of this afternoon, there are no riots in the streets, cities burning, protests, violence, highways closed, buildings occupied. I've heard many giving prayers and condolences. Maybe they are not the violent madmen as portrayed by media.

🙏 Prayers for those injured and the family of the individual in the crowd who was killed.

"One person was killed and two others were injured in the shooting.

All three victims are adult men and were audience members, CBS News reports. Their names have not been released.
A GoFundMe page, organised by the Trump campaign's national finance director Meredith O'Rourke, was set up in the hours after the attack with donations going to the families of the injured.
It has so far raised more than $340,000 USD (£267,000)."

I think there is much more to come out of course. However, it seems the Secret Service Counter-Snipers quickly dispatched the shooter.

However, the question remains, why was not the building the shooter used only 150 yds away from stage … not secured well before the event ? Some heads may roll ?

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2024 10:46 a.m. PST

Legion .., nor drones or air (I've heard). Also why so many people saw him up there, but not security, or in some cases, the security ignored the people telling them.

SBminisguy14 Jul 2024 11:02 a.m. PST

I think there is much more to come out of course. However, it seems the Secret Service Counter-Snipers quickly dispatched the shooter.

That's only because a group of people standing near the building, watching the Jumbotrons from outside the event proper SAW the shooter climbing up on the roof with a rifle. They pointed at the shooter and waved and gestured to get the attention of Secret Service and police. This man (below video) says the Police ignored them but they did see Secret Service looking their way. If not for this man and his friends the Secret Service would not have been alerted and would not had the chance to engage before the shooter slid back into cover and escaped.

More to come out eventually. Heads will definitely roll, this was a failed mission.

+1 SB! Right on the money, and funny!

My only other thought initially was that Trump might have been hit by splatter from the other victim after a first glance at the alignment of the blood on his face and his ear looked intact, but later it looked like it grazed him. I keep cringing thinking how close this was. An inch or so to the right could have been catastrophic.

And SB, we could say the same thing about Trump, banned from Twitter for inciting violence. I seem to remember Trump tweeting a cartoon of a train running over a CNN reporter to kick off his Presidency. I've lost track of the dozens of similar tweets since. Now Biden and Trump are in an insult spiral that is as nasty as we expected. 330 million people, that we know of (not counting illegals) – there are bound to be crazy ones running around taking stuff literally.

And SB, we could say the same thing about Trump, banned from Twitter for inciting violence.

Nah, Trump's tweets and comments are clearly hyperbole -- in sharp contrast to the likes of Kathy Griffin who pretended to decapitate Trump and hold up his severed head. There are scores of deranged violent statements by Celebrities and Democrat politicians, like this from a staffer for Bennie Thompson (D) who posted this on social media:

Thompson has tried to get Trump's Secret Service detail deleted.

But wait, there's more! Now we read that a local police officer, after being told by bystanders there was a man on the roof, climbed up the shooter's ladder and encountered the shooter -- and then fled back down the ladder when the shooter shifted his rifle towards the cop.

Ya had ONE job Mr Policeman…one job…

Yes there are scores of examples from so called entertainers, and the MSM has been unfair in this regard, maybe because no President has ever talked the way Trump did and it's good ratings. Not to mention they are just as biased as Fox.

But you cannot give Trump a pass here. Don't forget nut jobs who do not hear hyperbole. Just hilarious Paul Pelosi joke…or how about the death penalty for Miley? Shooting shoplifters as they leave the store? Ratings winners!

Conclusion : both sides need to shut up once in a while!

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP15 Jul 2024 5:30 a.m. PST

By integrity I mainly mean "not lying". Others may see that differently. In the government, leaders lie all the time. The current admin, and the previous, do this to escape accountability and keep their minions happy. They have made it foundational rather than expedient.

I won't be joining "X" to see your sources. It's the mother lode of examples, I admit, and is a media staple. I expect X to rejoin the government as a de facto branch pending the outcome of the election.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP15 Jul 2024 5:44 a.m. PST

The Secret Service failed. Not those at the stage, but all outside of it.

Things I have read, saw and heard.

1) Secret Service resources were diverted from the Trump rally to a Jill Biden event in Pittsburgh. (SS denies this).
2) secret service says that by policy they don't take the first shot (I find this hard to believe)
3) the secret service says they were not responsible for the security area outside their parameter (i again find that an area within 200 yards of the stage is outside their area). They say that was given to local police.
4) head of SS Cheatle, was a diversity hire and has claimed DEI in the SS was her priority. She especially wanted to get it up to 30% women. (We saw this at the rally). She denies that quality was sacrificed.

"The incident has also cast a spotlight on Cheatle's efforts to promote diversity within the agency. In a previous interview with CBS News, she emphasized the importance of attracting diverse candidates and providing opportunities for everyone, particularly women. The Secret Service aims for 30% of its recruits to be women by 2030."

The female agent on the stage did well, but she was obviously too short to shield the President. The 3 at the car, looked confused, shook up and discombobulated. Unsure where to be and one could not get her pistol in the holster.

Cheatle had been on Joe's detail when VP, but has since been working for security at Pepsi.

5) This is not the first issues with the SS under her administration. Biden should immediately release her. He won't, but it should happen.

Sort of -- but if you believe Trump is a racist Hitlerian dictator threat to America as leading Democrats and Media have been saying for over 8 years now, what hope is there of chilling out? Like this compilation of insane fear-p0rn claims that Trump with essentially turn America into a vast concentration camp, and "he cannot be allowed" to be president or even to exist. SB Tort is not one of those. He and I disagree on a lot of politics, but he has never been someone you cannot have a reasonable discussion with. (I keep trying to convert him though. There is always hope. 😉)

But there are way too many out there, as my 3 post assassination posts previously in here prove. Individuals, media and democratic administration ( that individual was fired yesterday). If you want to see some, Watch Joy, Behar, Whoopi Goldberg or "Joyless" Reid (just 3 examples). I have some links to their TDS if anyone wanted to see them. Both Reid and Behar are full of hate.

Trump has said he threw away his speech and has rewritten it. I look forward to hearing it. If anything like Melania Trump's (also posted above in this thread), it should be good.

Something the current PoTus could do, to ease things, would be to announce that he pardons Trump for all his current "supposed" crimes. Would be a consolatory response. I don't see that happening.

PS
I no sooner posted the above, than this popped up. Who's reading my post in the government? 😂
