35th, I never meant to even imply that the federal government is good at managing our money, nor will the response be "fine". It will have all the usual screw-ups it has created for decades. Hopefully not like Katrina. But I do believe that we come together to help our fellow citizens whose lives have been turned upside down by natural disasters and I doubt that any president has deliberately obstructed aid as an election tactic. The EPA is the lead agency for East Palestine, along with the NTSB. Not FEMA. We have been dealing with them here for years in the middle of an unimaginable environmental disaster literally dumped on us for decades by GE and Monsanto. Toxic, carcinogenic PCB contamination is everywhere, especially in the Housatonic River, but also in the soil, the air, and in us. It lasts almost forever, no real way to truly clean it up. It is a one sided battle. EPA is slow and under-resourced. Nixon was President when we began to fight GE and it's army of lawyers. I feel for all those in the East Palestine region. |

Afghan refugee charged with plotting US Election Day massacre worked for CIA: reportAn Afghan national accused of plotting an ISIS-inspired Election Day terror attack in the US worked for the CIA in Afghanistan, according to a new report. Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, who was nabbed in Oklahoma on Monday over the alleged terror plot, was employed as a security guard for the agency but was not a CIA informant, NBC News reported, citing multiple sources. It wasn't immediately clear when or how long Tawhedi worked security before he came to the US in 2021 — just weeks after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan and the last US troops departed from the war-torn nation. link |

The current government line now is, he was radicalized after coming to the US. Sure. Ah yes, the Isis that I keep saying here was not destroyed by Trump. These people just keep multiplying no matter what we do. Amongst the millions of refugees, illegals, and legitimate entries for education or jobs, how many are ready to die in a terror attack against us? Know one knows. And that is how terrorism works. This guy isn't the only one. But at least he was caught. Considering the numbers involved, it's amazing we haven't had many Islamic attacks here since 9/11, at least as a percentage of mass killings. |

Ah yes, the Isis that I keep saying here was not destroyed by Trump. ISIS was destroyed as a regional power, ALL of its conquered lands recaptured and senior leadership killed while Trump was President. ISIS at its height under Obama's Admin ruled 12 MILLION people in an area the size of Ohio. Trump's polices ended that. But Team Biden took their eye off the ball and now they have reconstituted. |

This is just one reason so many distrust what comes out of the current administration. Add this to the revised jobs statistics that change downward after they are reported by the media. "But the FBI has quietly revised those numbers, releasing new data that shows violent crime increased in 2022 by 4.5%. The new data includes thousands more murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults." "The actual changes in crimes are extensive. The updated data for 2022 report that there were 80,029 more violent crimes than in 2021. There were an additional 1,699 murders, 7,780 rapes, 33,459 robberies, and 37,091 aggravated assaults. The question naturally arises: should the FBI's 2023 numbers be believed?" Of course we also know that things that would have been felonies before, such as the theft rules in California, that are now misdemeanors, go unreported. As well as the change in reporting between Washington and the State jurisdictions. Causing more crime to be underreported. I'm sure the NSM will bury this, as they did the jobs revisions. This all contributes to our divisions. Subject: Stealth Edit: FBI Quietly Revises Violent Crime Stats | RealClearInvestigations link

SB – I still don't know if you are right, wrong or in between. My guess is the latter. 35th, nothing I have seen in my extended community or the communities I have visited in recent years matches up with the apocalyptic negative vison of Trump. Murder and rape on every street caused by the "evil within". It has been brutal to listen to such a squeaky wheel never give America a break unless he takes all the credit, or any credit for things America gets right, as if the only right way is embodied in one guy,and passed on to his followers. Do I believe this guy or the government? No choice for the middle. |
35thOVI | 16 Oct 2024 2:00 p.m. PST |
Tort so far, my data on crime has only been reported in sources opposed to Biden/Harris. Am I surprised? No. The MSM does their best to protect Democratic candidates… unless they are trying to force them out for replacement, a coup so to speak. Of course those opposed to them are going to be the ones to expose the lie. Can that be a surprise? But after a great deal of searching, I found a local CBS story 2 hours old, supporting this. They lied about the increase in jobs and they lied about the decrease in crime. I mean the government and media lied to us about the Covid vaccine effectiveness, effectiveness of masks, the necessity to close schools and businesses, the Hunter Biden laptop, the Russian pee tape, Russian Collusion, the Afghanistan withdrawal, the killing of the bomber, Biden's cognitive decline, the Muslim ban that wasn't, the Trump cages, Joe Biden made the astonishing claim that demands for photo identification are the new Jim Crow, Covid started in a wet market, the Chinese Spy balloon, Donald Trump supporting a "national abortion ban.", Donald Trump is going to govern using the 2025 project, Hands up don't shoot, Kyle Rittenhouse, Covington school student, "Mostly peaceful protest", Jessie Smollet, The assassination attempt was staged …. And this is just a small sample. Remember what happened to those who disagreed and spread "disinformation" on many of those subjects. Do a Google search on: "what has the government lied to us about in the last 4 years", you will get plenty of anti-Trump but.., well you know. 😉 So I and others, have a real problem believing a lot of what they spout and I am sure is a lot of their FEMA problem now. "FBI data summaries reviewed by The National News Desk show the agency originally reported1,253,716 violent crimes in 2021 and 1,232,428 violent crimes in 2022, representing the 1.7% decrease it originally advertised. The updated data summary reported 1,197,930 violent crimes in 2021 and1,256,671 in 2022, showing a starkly different 4.9% jump. The originally reported decrease in violent crime had been a political talking point for Democrats looking to praise the Biden-Harris administration for its handling of public safety. The revision has also called into question the accuracy of 2023 violent crime data released by the FBI earlier this year, which became a hot topic at the debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump sparred with ABC News anchor DavidMuir during the debate over what the former president called "defrauding statements" by the FBI regarding violent crime trends. He claimed the latest FBI data did not include "the worst cities," painting the figures as an incomplete picture of a public safety crisis impacting the U.S. Muir, who pushed back on Trump's claims, cited FBI data that shows "overall violent crime is coming down in this country." Harris used the 2023 data as an opportunity to reassure Americans that the Biden-Harris administration has made the U.S. safer. "Today's new data submitted to the FBI confirms that our dedicated efforts and collaborative partnerships with law enforcement are working," Harris said on social media last month. "Americans are safer now than when we took office." " Subject: FBI quietly changed violent crime data to show increase, not decrease, from 2021 to 2022

(From another article) "But the point goes deeper than that. People aren't upset that CBS edited the Kamala Harris interview. They're upset that CBS edited the interview to make her look better. It's one thing to cut down an interview to the best content or to trim the length; Wertheim is right, all journalists/networks do that. It's another thing entirely to purposefully edit to make sure the subject is portrayed in a certain light, particularly when it completely goes against what happened in the actual interview. It's further proof that many of the legacy media outlets are not just rooting for Kamala Harris to win – they're actually trying to help her get elected. That's not the job of the media. In fact, it's the exact opposite. " |

Maybe it's not about who we don't believe, but who we do believe that is taking us down. The bias in the media has steadily grown, but it's just as blatant on Fox as anywhere else. Do we pick the sources that are most gratifying to us or do they pick us? They all target us, based on concepts they have created and exploited. The duplicity of the government has always been there. The grubby money and power based world of special interests does not go away via elections. The media is part of that world. The people who say they will drain the swamp actually can't wait to jump in. |

@Tortorella, I largely agree with you. BUT -- the modern Democrat Party's very survival, power and wealth depends on Government power. That Party has co-opted folks from the "opposition" GOP to include some senior leadership like Mitch McConnell. This group of grifters and grabbers have their own vision of the future, and it doesn't seem to include the health, wealth, freedom and well-being of the general populace. Their actions have been highly destructive to the US and they have been able to grow and nurture a leviathan state that, for very self-interested human reasons, will be hard to reverse. So I'm all for any and all checks and reversals of their power. And if that means this time only OrangeManBad – for all his flaws – has the grit and determination to check their power, fine, so be it. As Lincoln once said of General Grant when rivals wanted him removed and attacked Grant as being ungentlemanly, a drunkard with a violent temper, etc. -- "I can't spare this man, he fights." |

Many people dislike Orange guy because he and his family look like the classic case. Except that Trump's the only president in recent history who left office with a lower net worth than when he entered. His net worth was $4.5 USD Billion when he entered office, and when he left his net worth had dropped to $2.1 USD Billion, So he lost over $2 USD Billion in wealth during his presidency. OTH, Obama entered office with a net worth of less than $2 USD Million, and left office with $70 USD Million. He now reportedly has a net worth of almost $250 USD Million. The real common ground is that the everyday citizen is getting ripped off and the recourse of voting is no longer trusted. People on every side are angry and disgusted. Will the noise ever end or will we just go crazy? We're at the grifter high water mark -- will they flood the system or can we reverse course? And Trump is the only President in recent history who refused to publish his tax account, refused to put his shares/businesses into a "blind" account so his decisions couldn't possibly be accused of being biased, and the only President in recent history who deliberately shovelled public money into his own pockets by holding meeting after meeting at his own hotels, so many that the bodyguard found it cheaper to rent rooms by the year than just for the meetings. I hope this is the high water mark! But America is blinded by the show these guys put on. Nobody knows anything about Trump's finances, except from some actual evidence at his company's trial. Michelle Obama is a book selling machine- that is pretty much their story. But every elected and appointed official in America seems to leave office with way more money than when they started. Clintons, Trump's family, members of Congress, Supreme Court. A couple of ways to restore confidence are by term limits, and requiring more transparent financial info from candidates up front. You would have to make some sort of rules for the gangs of lawyers who stall the legal system into the next century to avoid accountability. Never mind Congressional Ethics violations, we need laws. Er…from Congress. Most of these people are treated differently than average Americans under the law or at least create that appearance. We have complained our whole lives about this. But we keep believing in our side. I can now imagine what it felt like for many citizens north and south as the election approached in 1860. Like they were ready to leap off a bridge. |

Many people dislike Orange guy because he and his family look like the classic case. And these same people often LIKED Trump…like Whoopi and Behar from the View, before he challenged their political power. Trump was a moderate New York Democrat before he changed party and became a Republican. He donated to Democrats like Bill Clinton and Jesse Jackson. As he quipped at the Alfred Smith dinner, he gave Sen Schumer his very first donation check and helped Schumer get into office. They invited him to their fundraisers, parties and weddings as both a successful businessman and TV celebrity. He was recognized for his work in helping minority owned businesses and the Black community with an NAACP Rosa Parks award. He was also recognized by Jewish groups for his support of the Jewish Community -- and his daughter, son-in-law (and key advisor) and many grandkids are Jewish. He was a frequent guest on TV shows like The View and the Oprah Show, and they always treated him with smiles. All that changed when he ran against Hillary Clinton. At first he was treated like the comic relief, oh that cheeky Trump, he's good for ratings! Then he got traction. Then they freaked out when he won the GOP Nomination and started to perform well against Hillary. They knew they couldn't run against actual Trump -- a moderate Dmeocrat turned moderate Republican, so they reinvented Trump from the outside. Like a switch had been flipped the Democrats and allied media turned on him and used all their resources to paint him as a racist, misogynist, fascist reincarnation of Adolf Hitler! They rewrote history, took quotes and media appearances out of context and highly edited to make Trump seem like a horrible racist -- and now they've just jumped the shark full on, in violation of Godwin's Law and just say he IS Hitler! A danger to democracy! A traitor! He's gonna round us all up and put us into Camps! Pathetic fear mongering. |

Hillary and the Democratic Party looked at the Republican candidates in 2016 election. I believe they decided who of the group were the most challenge to her being elected. They then decided who was the least likely to beat them. They settled on Trump. At that point, they had the MSM follow him everywhere. They gave him constant press coverage. They shot down the others. They built Trump up at each debate. Then when he was nominated, they laughed at him, made fun of him, joked there was no possible way this idiot can win. They and Hillary became complacent. They thought they had all their ducks in a row. Then Trump wins! The collapse on the left was massive. Crying, screaming, panic, grinding of teeth and pulling of hair. "How could this have happened!!!???" 😱😱 They had built up the individual who beat them. They still can't believe it. |

I think getting good voter rolls is something of a pipe dream. It depends on thousands of local governments and officials. In some ways this is good, as in my small town. In other ways, it may be too unwieldy to be kept up to date, as in big cities. As with so much now, we will need to arrive at a consensus. Are we cleaning up the rolls or just purging them of opponents? I would rather this stay local. Feds tend to make everything too complicated. And I will say again, having dealt directly with illegals over many years, they generally don't do anything that will get them found and deported. They fear deportation more than anything, even when we don't bother to deport them. They stay off the radar, and I don't remember any who wanted to vote. Its not a thing for them, in my experience. Only the second president to be elected to a noncontiguous term, after Grover Cleveland in 1892 (whose career offers some surprising parallels to Trump's own, declarations that he is a unique anomaly notwithstanding). Maybe now we can find out what was on the Butler assassin's phone. |

"Maybe now we can find out what was on the Butler assassin's phone." Hopefully a lot of questions will be answered. Supreme Court leaks, cocaine in the White House…, and many others. Dow futures up over 1300 this morning! Hopefully with control of the Senate and possibly the House, we get the border taken care of, our election system fixed finally, a long term governmental financing…. And on and on. Yes all hopes, I know. But at least this morning, I feel hopeful. "I hope" that we see the politics of division stopped and we get back to not being afraid to express our views, without being accused of being a Nazi, Facists, Homophobe, anti-woman, white supremist, neo-confederate. My condolences to those who lost. I obviously know that feeling all too well. Actually, this year on TMP it has gotten better discussion wise. 🙂 |

After mentioning the politics of division above, I would be remiss if I did not also mention that we in Ohio elected a man born in Bogotá, Colombia to the US Senate. I have a sign for him in my front yard. My point: I, like many of us who have been accused of so many things because of our politics, will vote for anyone, as long as you represent our views. I don't care what country you come from, I only care that you are legally here and you are willing to work to better yourself and your family. |

The great advantage of this is that the militia can stand down. No one will claim things were rigged or storm the Capitol. There will be a proper transition. The civil war risk has ended. The disadvantage is the divisions continue as profound as ever. Division became the instrument of power and we can find no one to reunite us on either side. |
