Howdy – I have a customer who wants me to scale up my 28mm figures to 1:32 scale miniatures?

I am a bit stymied.

I scale them to 40mm by multiplying the file by 126.
I scale them to 54mm by multiplying by 175.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Test prints would be useful.

I think 54mm is 1/32nd scale.

It depends on what scale you consider 28mm to be.

You could also open the STL in your slicer, look at its dimensions then enlarge to the size you or your friend wants.

All good advice.

All you need to calculate your size:

>my 28mm figures
28mm is usually considered 1:56
Heroic 32mm go up to 1:48
Just take a look and decide for yourself.

> to 1:32 scale miniatures?
These are usually considered as 54mm.

>I scale them to 54mm by multiplying by 175.
Correct, 1:56 to 1:32 is 175%

>I scale them to 40mm by multiplying the file by 126.
40mm are pretty heroic 32mm, which would be 1:48.
Why would you want to go there?

@Puster

40mm are a bit taller then epic and they want to fit in with say Sash and Saber etc.

Thank you

I would get a tape measure out and use the to get a reasonable value of the figure uncle. Usually 20mm figures arn't. Then you can scale up. Typically 54 mm represents a man a shade under 5 ft 8.11 inch. (I used 1730 not 1728mm).

there is a scaler you can put on the build plate, where it has both mm reading and height in feet in both 32mm and 28mm

link

Not all miniatures still match even if the same height because some people make thing thick ( heroic) and some make things thin beyond beleif and everything in between!

Put that scaler on the build play and the miniature right next to it, or even partly into it to try, and the operative word is try to get things correct!

If you think scale creep is a issue with Metal miniatures from various manufacturers, well there are all sorts of frustrations involved with 3d printing models also!!!!

Oh and just be glad he want 28mm scaled up to a larger size, instead of 32mm miniatues scaled down to smaller size, as that presents its own issues!! including resupporting many miniatures, parts becoming to thin ( because of poor STL design) and so on!

Oh and just try printing it at 115% larger. ie 32/28ths= 114.28 but 115% is close enough!

hmm you said 1:32mm scale?? well then dont do this, divide the desired height by 28 to figure how much you want it enlarged, if you mean there is a 32mm scale verses the 32mm version of what people call 28mm! If he just wants a 28mm miniature to be 32mm do what I said!

Ask him how tall he actually wants them from foot to top of head, because like everything else, miniatures from different manufactures never seem to match any stated scale whether metal, plastic or 3d printed! get how tall he wants them, either to top of head or to eyes, use that scaler and hopefully he will be happy with them!
