Fifty years ago today the original Dungeons & Dragons game was published by the company that would become TSR. So gather your comrades in a tavern and lift a mug of whatever fantasy brew you prefer in celebration. Here's to a "fantastic" fifty years of roleplaying, and hopes for another fifty more! |

And it was 40 years ago, ish…, that I played my first D&D game. Coke Zero, instead of Regular Coke these days. And carrots and hummus instead of chips. But D&D is still a lot of fun. Eric |

I have never played D and D and I am not much of a fantasy gamer either. But I can sure appreciate the impact this game has had on gaming and I raise a glass to it. |

I remember well that day in my first week of college and I saw a guy wearing a t-shirt that said "Dungeons and Dragons" and I asked, "what's that?" and after trying unsuccessfully to give a coherent answer, he said, "we're playing tomorrow night" and give me a time and location, and that was the really beginning of a lifelong hobby. That was 1976, so … not good at math … 48 or so years ago? It was autumn, so not quite 48 years, more like 47-and-something. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with how that's all turned out, and I'm even running a Traveller campaign right now. |
