I ask because I have tried but quickly became overwhelmed. It seems to be aptly named. Is there some advantage to it that I'm missing? |

Use it for gaming (Voice/Video), instant messaging (friends and family) and keeping things sorted by areas of interest. My kids use it (group chat) and we ended up creating a 'Family' server so that everyone can be updated |

Nope. Never tried, no interest. |

I use it. It's useful for coordination and collaboration. Like any tool, it really depends on your mission and operations whether or not it is more useful than any other. IMHO, Discord does an abysmally poor job of providing users basic info on what is going on and how to use features. It's mostly "try some stuff and see what you get, then look at what others are doing". |

It's a good alternative to creating a FaceBook Group. I certainly don't use all its features but I find the basics easy to learn. |

I find it challenging to use. I'm of average intelligence but below average techno-savvy. |

I use it for online gaming talking to team members. |

Yes. Very useful for PC and online gaming. |

Never heard of it and don't know what you are talking about. |

I had to look it up and I still don't know what it is. |

It's a way to do live audio and video group "calls" joined with text messaging and thread discussions— basically, free Zoom calls. I use it for an ongoing Marvel Super Heroes RPG game and for online Shadows of Brimstones. I've also done Horrified (board game) and HeroQuest on it, using my iPhone as the camera and microphone. It's not hard to use, you've just got to get past their unique terminology. You create a "server", which is just a virtual online site for chat and video. You then invite others to use the server. Start a video or audio connection and those same invitees can join in. It's glorified FaceTime Groups which can be done on any device— PC, Mac, tablet, phone. |

I've never used it and don't foresee ever doing so. I like to play in person. |

The last thing I ng I need is yet another online communications tool to add to panoply of existing ones I already use (I think my parents must be last people on the plant who insist on still using Skype). But yes, I've heard of Discord and I know some passionate adherents to the platform, particularly from people who want to get around Facebooks moderation standards when it comes to anything to do with firearms. |

Facebook seems better. I'm already doomscrolling so I don't need another platform. |

I use it, but haven't really "figured it out". I can operate it, but I don't know what to do with it. If several people agree to "meet" you can have a text or voice chat, that works great. Share an image or a screen, neat. But if there's a "server" for a particular game and you check in but there's no one there, is it like a TMP thread? Or something? So I'm still working on that. Discord is definitely "where the action is", so I want to figure it out. |

A "server" is always accessible, but that doesn't mean that the users of a server are always playing. That's why when you join a server, nobody else may be there. For example, my little MSH RPG group (all three of us) have a server dedicated to our game. But we only game one night a week for two hours. The rest of the time, the server only acts to host messages we might post— mostly to make certain everyone can make the next session. I'm a member of another server a different group uses for Savage Worlds Deadlands and /SoB gaming (mostly SoB these days.) We only do that one day a week as well, so most of the time it's idle. And I have another server which I've used for online D&D, HeroQuest and Horrified games. Nothing's happened on that server for quite awhile, but it's still up and the occasional public message appears from my various online gamers there. So a server is sort of a cross between a forum (some are very active in the chat/message functions) and just a placeholder virtual location to host live games whenever anybody who are on the server's "invite" list can get together for the games. Note that anybody with privileges (granted by the server's creator) can initiate a video/audio call on the server, and send invites to others to join in. And yeah, I prefer face-to-face gaming, but Needs Must… |

Many local RPG groups use it to communicate out-of-game but I can't stand it, it's impossible for me to navigate or understand. |

Used it once, wasn't impressed. The lack of any kind of help files or descriptions of what the buttons do really turned me off. |

Yes. For sim racing not wargaming. |

It's a great way to connect with friends, and encourage a much tighter community then I've found with other sites. It also doesn't allow you to infinitely scroll, as you can only engage in the small communities you are a part of. |
