Just read it today in a UK newspaper. An obit for Capt Bob Pardo, died aged 89 RIP.

Basically, two F4 Phantoms over NVN and both hit, but one losing height rapidly and heading for the Hanoi Hilton. So what did he do?

He pushed his wingman to safety by approaching him underneath and getting him to drop his tailhook. He then pushed that with his cockpit windscreen to gain another 30 miles and was rewarded with the threat of court martial…..but after all the crews got home.

I thought we had the monopoly on bureaucracy this side of the pond! But what a great story. Bless his memory.

(and, if nothing seems to happen, do not press "Submit" a second time. Now I cannot totally clear the first submission, only its content)

I saw this a few days ago. If I remember correctly, he was ultimately awarded a silver star for his actions. True hero: do what needs to be done to take care of a fellow serviceman. RIP
