Cuera Dragoons.
28mm. metal.
The dragoons of Cuera were the border cavalry of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. They were a body, like European dragoons, trained to share both on foot and horse. The "Cuera" was the vest they carried, as protection for the arrows and knife's blows.
They operated in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.
Each of them had five horses and a mule. His armament consisted of a short musket, a long carbine (sometimes scratched), four guns, saber, sword, spear and shield.
They fought and defeated numerous Indian tribes such as the Apaches and the Comanches.
During the seventeenth century and throughout the 18th century, they maintained and expanded a border of more than 5000 km.
At the high time his number did not reach 1500 men

Something lost in translation perhaps?

con permiso:

" Cuera referred to the leather jerkin that they wore as protection against arrows and bladed weapons….

Each man was provided with five horses and a mule. His weapons consisted of a short musket [musketoon?], a long carbine (sometimes rifled) four pistols, a sabre, sword, lance and shield."

Amidst that variety of weaponry, I am particularly intrigued by their carrying a sabre and a sword.

Elsewhere, I find references to a sword espada ancha and a dagger puñal. Would that be more correct?

Those are some nice looking figures. Will you be doing Apaches or Pimas?
