"Word spread that a monster was making a river crossing unsafe. The brave soldiers of Nassau-Usingen under Major Maximilian von Oberlauken approached from the east, while the daring Spaniards of Baron Esteban D'Aranda approached the bridge from the west. The picture shows the Nassau people at the bottom and the Spaniards at the top. The renewed encounter between Michi and Walter's troops immediately developed into a nasty firefight in order to make it clear from the outset and from a distance that the respective opponent would not leave a single inch of ground without a fight. An unmanned rowing boat bobbing around in the river caught the attention of the Spaniards, who immediately headed for the river bank. However, the Nassau major was the first to reach the object of desire with a courageous sprint and was promptly mown down by the Spanish volley on the other side of the river…"
