I saw a copy of this set of rules in a local thrift store and know nothing about it. I was thinking about picking it up just for ideas but thought I would check in with the Hive mind to see if anyone has played it or know anything about it. Any info would be helpful.

Get it if it's cheap. A reasonable game with a few good ideas. A quick look on Board Game Geek suggests a decent resale price if it's in good condition.

Dont know a lot about it – other than there were 3 supplements "Blood on the Plains", "Showdown" and the "Alamo" a search of you tube videos showed a number explaining the rules. Haven't seen it played in years.

Great game – we enjoyed it!

I'd buy it to sell it if it was cheap enough. I played it a few times but I didn't care for it. Others liked it.

It is based on Games Workshop's Lord of the Rings/Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game. Very Hollywood.

Thanks guys. I think I will pick it up. Any one else out there got more info on the game?

We play it quite a bit in our club. I think it is by far GWs best game, as it is the same rules as Lord of the Rings. They just change the names of things to give it a western "skin."

I have a QRS which contains a rules summary. Get it here:

or PM me or mark@scalecreep.com and I'll send you a copy to look at. We do have 1 or 2 house rules.

Opinion:

If you collect games, buy it.
If you are addicted to Warhammer's generic system buy it.
If you want a western gunfight game, buy Gunfighters' Ball.

I am not endorsing this, but if you're short on funds and simply want to read the rules they are available on several file sharing sites.

It is quite a good system, not based on Warhammer but on the Lord of the Rings game. Worth buying for the scenarios alone, but the supplements are not good value

As you might expect from a game lightly adapted from a medieval fantasy base, close combat plays a rather more prominent role than in either the Real West or the Reel West.
