On February 22, 1709, the royal troops approached Krasny Kut (now the village of Krasnokutsk in the Kharkov region), attacked the Russian vanguard of General Shamburg, consisting of two dragoon regiments, and forced him to retreat towards Gorodny, where General Renne and the rest of the dragoon regiments were located. Renne hurried part of the detachment and placed it behind the fence, south of Gorodnlgo, and the other, most part, was located north of the village…"
