This discussion – which concerned DBN rules:

TMP – Artillery ranges in in #De Bellis Napoleonicis v 2.1#

Reminded me of a very stylised French board-game – the name eluded me until guehgle-foo magicke occurred:

Wiki – DEBORD/BECKER-HO – A Game of War 1987

I have no idea what it is like to play – but perhaps some ideas could be used for mini-campaign purposes?

The French game is very stylised with the combat resolution being made by a strength calculation with all the units involved, also taking into account lines of communication. Dice is not used. Of course what is really interesting about the game is who wrote it. I bought my copy years ago from the Tate art gallery here in the UK. You don't get many wargames designed by French Marxist Philosophers!

DBN is much more tactical with more troop classifications, tactics and effects of terrain.
