44 years ago today, The Warriors opened. I've been having a grand time modelling a number of the movie gangs for gaming with Mean Streets. What's your favorite street gang movie?

And in the final round of voting:

25% said "Warriors, The (1979)"
21% said "Big Trouble in Little China (1986)"
17% said "Mad Max (1979)"

Does "Gangs of New York" count?

Daniel Day-Lewis as Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting was great.

The Baseball Gang was real, not sure if they were exactly. Likethe movie version. There is a behind the scenes YouTube on Warriors
It was my pick

What?! No love for West Side Story? Best gang song ever – "Jet Song" (including the version by Alice Cooper in "Gutter Cat vs The Jets"). 1961 version of movie only applicable. 2021 remake horrible.

I saw The Warriors when it first played in cinemas 44 years ago. I remember that there was some hysteria about possible gang violence erupting in theaters. Learning of that "threat." I rushed to see it in the hope of witnessing audience brawls. At 14 I was an edgy little bastard so felt disappointed when no violence erupted. I still watch that film once in a while.

The dumbest gang has to be those roller skate lameoids. One could easily escape them buy running down a flight of stairs.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Warriors when it came out, but admit I haven't watched it since. A few years after it came out, I realized it essentially was the same as the "trapped behind enemy lines" WWII movies I watched on TV as a youngster.

I think Warriors is very loosely based on Xenophon (to include them being invited by the foreign leader "Darius").

It's a classic for me. I first saw it as a kid in the early 80s and purchased the Directors Cut DVD. It's incredibly campy but still very enjoyable. Can't argue with that winning out.

The film did lead to a high level of violence. So much so that the pulled the movie from the theaters.

Xenophon also inspired that other 70s action film; The Wild Geese.

The scenario where a small group must make its way out of danger while fighting off attacks by hostiles is Wargaming 101.
