How Often Do You Use a Measuring Stick?

I have games that measure in Base Widths so it's easier to have a measuring stick.

Kill Team uses shapes and has measuring gauges. So do the Star Wars games (Legion, Shatterpoint, X wing) come to think of it.

I guess the goal is to be language and system (Metric/Imperial) agnostic
