We had a great time today playtesting my set of rules for refighting actions of the Rebellion of 1745. Most of the mechanics worked really well, but there were clearly some adjustments that needed to be made. Some will be noted in the report. Please share any thoughts you may have.

A rugged affair, with the Jacks coming away with a marginal victory. Looks like a fun time was had! Why not leave the March Column formation alone rather than compel a formation change when close to an enemy? Shouldn't the commander be left to decide those things? And what about ambushes by the enemy on a March Column? You wouldn't want to preclude that possibility, would you? Let the commander make his own mistakes!

A game should encourage linear tactics normally but at the same time, irregular troops like clansmen that were not well trained like regulars did tend to use columns for attack, and that should be encouraged -- give Highlanders a bonus for charging and melee in column and make them faster in this formation. That would be historically accurate.

Thanks for your input! Highlanders get a +2 for charging in attack column, all others just +1. Regulars get a +1 on the fire table, highlanders a -1.

I think you are right about the march column. We will leave that up to the commander.
