End-of-the-year game. Nightwatch Hunters are tasked with deciphering mystical runes while waves of goblins and ogres are determined to keep their secrets.

Interesting, going to check out the rules. Off topic, where did you get that mat?

Thanks. That's a Cigar Box mat.

<sigh> even your ruined table looks better than my pristine one :(
Nicely done, though!

Great AAR and presentation.

I have a question regarding larger playing surfaces for Night Watch and Exploit Zero. I am planning a run and gun scenario where team agents are running down a 6 foot urban table, weaving around parked cars, into alleys, avoiding civilians and pursued by HSEC etc… ( Something like the bank shootout in the movie "Heat") Any suggestions on force levels and spawn points? It could be a Night Watch scenario I am considering something similar to the Fellowship of the Ring fleeing through Moria. Could you run something similar at your club as an example?

Some of the best games I have played in or game mastered involve lots of movement and a race against time.

The Exploit Zero Omnibus any ETA?

I am also considering tinkering with HSEC and Monster threat levels in Exploit Zero and Night Watch. I know I can make it my own game and do what I want but I thought I would run my ideas past you since you have more experience as the author of the game.

1. I am considering HSEC4 and monster level 4 threats. This would be the equivalent of barely trained rabble, zombies, lesser goblins, kobolds. They roll a die four, hit on 4 and save on a 4.

2. I am considering randomized threats. Example instead of 3 HSEC8 / Monster 8 roll on a random table and it could be 6 HSEC6 or maybe 12 HSEC4. This keeps the players guessing they could face an overwhelming horde instead of ever increasing stronger tougher foes.

Your thoughts?

Dragon Gunner. Thank you. Glad you liked the AAR.

For a gauntlet style game on a larger table, I'd place two portals on each long side, at 1/4 and 3/4 distance from the starting edge.

I'd bump player Movement to 6" and the turn limit to 10.

I'd have a medium to high density terrain with plenty of scatter. And I'd break up the central lane so it wasn't one continuous, uninterrupted passage.

Exploit Zero Omnibus is on the To Do list but not the top slot. I need to gather some serious funds first.

As far as modding the adversaries, I would only up the Quantity if you have a large number of players.

For Nightwatch, I'd lean into the new Dark Spawn traits in the recent NW: Blood and Bone to make them individually more dangerous.

For Exploit Zero, you can find similar modding ideas for HSEC in the EZ: Hostile Takeover. Again, I'm thinking of increasing lethality with distinct traits/flavor rather than bulking up the number of baddies.

As far as barely trained rabble, lesser goblins, etc – how is that different from D6/Vermin-level enemies?

Do you mean to stat out enemies that use a D4?

Depending on your players, I'd restrict the level of enemies to two tiers, then add an Alpha, mini-boss or two near the end to ratchet the tension. As GM, you can have them spawn anytime/anywhere that suits the scenario narrative.

"Do you mean to stat out enemies that use a D4?"-Denatus

Yes that is what I was considering.

For Exploit Zero I was thinking…

HSEC 4 = rabble, rioters / revolutionaries, gang banger wannabes and not enough training or experience to make sound combat decisions. The kind of guys that fire from the hip while running.

HSEC 6 = Trained security or conscript soldier
HSEC 8 = Professional soldiers or trained to that standard.
HSEC 10 = Elite soldiers or trained to that standard.

For Nightwatch I will use goblinoids as an example.

Monster 4 = Lesser Goblin
Monster 6 = Orc
Monster 8 = Black Orc / Great Orc
Monster 10 = Bugbear , Ogre, Troll etc…

D4 enemies… hunh.
Go for it. I'd be interested to hear how they work out.

EZ Hostile Takeover has Civilian Mobs that activate/move at random at the end of every turn. But they're little more than mobile terrain. Providing them with a degree of lethality – albeit a small one – could be interesting.

Excellent table: it could be used for several periods.
