What habits do you have, even if completely silly.

I try not to mix armies in storage boxes. This is so they don't fight.

Don't try and tell me there is a good reason – makes it so you don't pick up the wrong figures, etc. No I do it so they don't fight in the box. For instance I can't expand my 1809 French because there is no storage, even though I have room in the Austrian box.

The only exception is the generals are in the same tray, as there are so few, and even though they are in different compartments, I still have a feeling of disquiet. The only saving grace is as Officers they are far to well mannered to fight.

Dice that fall on the floor don't get used again in the game. They have had all the luck bounced out of them.

Saying "Anything but a one" will guarantee that the roll will be a one.

OCD but I need the dice to be appropriate to the force being played be it color or an appropriate symbol where the six goes.

I never attack troops who are defending churches.

I like to roll two dice in my hand even if I only need to throw one of them.

The superstitions in our games is that 2 of the guys have freakishly good luck with die rolls and one guy has unnaturally bad luck with rolls.

If I roll a dice and it give me a great result. I won't roll it a second time in a row. If figure the good roll has left it and the next roll will be bad.

If some form of spicy cheese dip is unavailable, it is a friendly match. If spicy cheese is available we focus on winning not having fun. Spicy cheese means business.

I prefer light blue dice but try to use a color that has some relation to the type of troops I'm misusing.

When we played more often and with fewer castings available, certain units had a reputation as lucky or unlucky--so much so that the owner of the 10th (British) Hussars--nice castings with a professional paint job--attempted to sell them at a serious discount for no takers. We all knew about the "rotten routing Tenth," just as we all knew that the Polish 13th ("lead pipe") Cuirassiers could be relied on in any or all circumstances. A very non-superstitious friend told me once that during the game he'd declined what should have been the smart move--attacking my 1813-15 Hanoverians--because they always fought a little better for me than the law of averages suggested.

Not a superstition exactly but once I got so pissed at a unit that I took one fogure & flatterened it with a hammer for the unit to see. They performed better after that. That was about 45 years ago. I'm much calmer now.

The first rule of Miniature Fight Club is that nobody talks about Miniature Fight Club… ;-)

Never tell Grelber what he needs to roll. He does.

I try instead to always tell him what he doesn't want to roll -- seems to confuse his karma.

I tend to keep dice together that have given me good rolls, high or low, and discard those that don't. So if I'm rolling 5 dice needing low numbers and 3 of those rolled high, they get swept to the side and I try some other dice for the next throw. This is a turn by turn action on my part so my dice can see a lot of turnover during a game.

Don't say "what could possibly go wrong?" after you've set your plan.

I believe my worst oddity may not be that odd with this company.

I call it the "one more unit" syndrome. Long after I have more than enough units for any game, I keep adding something new. As an example, if I deployed my Spanish American War collection (Spanish, US, and Cubans) on the table there would be no room left for terrain.

Who ever crosses the river first, will lose the game!

jefritrout16 Jan 2024 8:42 p.m. PST

Thanks to Wally Simon, my combat dice are "the black dice of death." I will always have a few black dice to roll for melee resolution.
