After spending almost a year working on ACW armies in 10mm, I'm ready to shake things up and do some 54mm AWI. I'm leaning towards "Armies in Plastic" figs to test out things at first (I'm really just wanting to go just a step beyond "slapping" this project together).

There doesn't seem to be any flagbearers by AiP. Does anyone have any suggestions? I intend to make my own flags or purchase them, so bare flag staffs are preferable, but I don't mind trimming a staff of a plastic, molded flag if possible.

If you can find a kit, Airfix did a plastic kit AWI soldier that came with an option to make him a standard bearer. Kit sold (in the day) for 98 cents. I've seen them go for under $5. USDoo as they made a ton of that kit.

@Dye4minis Thank you!! That tip has opened up a whole new world! I'm trying to ignore all the wonderful 1/72 Airfix stuff now, lol!

When did ATKM go back into business?!

@OP, I took AiP infantrymen and who were advancing in a sort of Port Arms pose and cut away the musket, which leaves enough room for a flagstaff, and the hands are simply carrying a flag now instead of a musket.

@79thPA Thank you! Noted! I'm about to place an order with them :)

Good luck on your project.

I'm almost positive that ATKM is not back in business (much to my sorrow). I emailed him and it bounced.

Thanks

John

I am using a lot of AIP for my Second Mexican-American War project. As 79th PA noted you can generally find several figures that can be converted. I use brass rod (easy to cut) for the poles and scale up flags from the internet. I picked up some small craft beads to top the poles (and avoid impaling fingers/hands). You may have to reconstruct part of the hands, I use air dry clay.

Good luck with your project.
