Today, we returned to our playtesting of Oathmark, learning the rules. Again we had my Dwarves facing Lawrence's Elves.

This was a fantastic Battle Report! Lots of photos with quick descriptions get the report flowing and made me want to read another report. Nice work.

Have I picked it up wrong? It seems to be all about the shooting.

Same same. Did I miss the point were they came to grips? My elves do a lot of shooting, but my dwarves are expected to go toe to toe with the enemy.

@ Cormac Mac Art – Thank you so much for the kind comments!

@ Advocate/Col Durnford – the rules as written limit any army to 4 of each unit type, so any army can deploy a lot of archers. I actually had one of my Spellcasters with 'Smoke', so I could have closed down the Elven Archers (and my own) easily, but that was not the aim of today's game.
If I were to play today's game again, I would have used Smoke and deployed very few Archers for when the smoke dispelled. I could have used lots more close combat troops and stormed the Elves.
Oh, yes, 3 of my forward 4 units crossed swords with the Elves!

I hope this clarifies the game for you? – Thanks for commenting anyway!

What do you think of the rules?

Hi 79thPA! – Happy Christmas!

We like the rules, though I imagine we will be making a couple of House Rules down the line?.
Possibly doing better army lists based on areas in your kingdom, maybe adding a -1 CD if non-Nimble troops fighting in woods.
At the moment we are just familiarising ourselves how the rules play. Introducing Magic has made a lot of differences to how you fight battles, so it could be a longish learning curve!
One thing I noticed in the rules is Monsters like Trolls, Giant spiders etc don't work in units, but are units of one, but several YouTube video games show folks using them in units (House Rule?).

Which figures are Oathmark? I have 6 of those catapult models -- superb, usable by many races, so truly useful in a gamer's collection.

Nice brush work. Nice batt-rep. Cheers!

Oathmark figures are produced by North Star in the UK link
They are the most 'True to Tolkien' figures I know.
Thanks for the kind comments!

I was asking which of the army figures were Oathmark? All of them?

The Catapults are WizKids, I believe. They're fantastic models for Heavy Catapults, and if you add a few figures from whichever race you want to use them in battle, they work, really well.

I am interested in several Oathmark figure boxed sets. I like their Goblin Sharp Stick Thrower set, along with a few of their Goblin Cavalry sets. Trying hard to restrain myself from ordering them, as my Goblin Army is already huge, with Aerial Giant Bat, Wolf, and Warg Cavalry.

I love my Dwarf Armies, as well. I have smaller figures I use as Hill Dwarves, with slightly larger figures I use as Mountain Dwarves. In AD&D, there were two types/sizes of Dwarves. I will sometimes use the shorter Hill Dwarves as Gnomes, if I need to grow my existing Gnome Army for a battle.

I have a hard time not expanding my armies when I see such enticing figures… LOL! Cheers!

The Elves are Oathmark figures (Painted by the chap who sold them as a job lot to my pal Lawrence), as are all my Dwarves apart from the Catapult which is WizKids as you know.
I am currently painting Oathmark Orcs. I love the beautifully detailed models made by North Star.
I also like that Oathmark lets you use different manufacturers models as well as their official figures!
