Here's a platoon of Eureka and Peter Pig Japanese Infantry based for Crossfire. There will be a YouTube tutorial posted around Boxing Day.

Always jealous of your bases/labels. Excellent brush work and basing. Be a real treat to play in one of your games

Hi echoing others thoughts, great looking figures and basing.
Your unit labels have me confused (easily done 😊), from the Japanese shotai and Buntai I get the bases are sections in a platoon but the NATO style symbol indicates a company, what does each base represent?
Also what is the symbol with a dot and a cross above it I don't recognise that? command?
Cheers

Superbly done! Looking forward to the tutorial.

If the cross ended in an arrowhead would be the symbol for a mortar so maybe a heavy weapons section?

mghFond24 Dec 2023 12:20 p.m. PST

Those are superb! Sure beat my WW2 Japanese.

CaptainDarling24 Dec 2023 1:59 p.m. PST

Thanks Marc33594, second pic in the OP the label clearly has a dot with a cross above it and connected, looks like an officer figure on the base so assuming some sort of command symbol?

Ryan Rabies24 Dec 2023 8:07 p.m. PST

Thanks, everyone. Captaindarling, the tactical symbols are not NATO. they are WW2 Japanese tactical symbols. The cross with the white dot is a platoon commander and the square with the vertical line is a squad. It does look like a NATO infantry company symbol!

Thanks Ryan, never knew about a Japanese set of unit symbols, I've tried googling them without success for use in my Malaya 1942 campaign do you have any online links that show them (thanks!)…

Here are some Japanese map symbols. I also got some from a US intelligence briefing on the Japanese army which was declassified and turned into a PDF. I forget where I downloaded it, you could try a web search Japanese Army Handbook +PDF. It looks like the symbol that looks like a Nato company is just a general symbol to indicate an infantry unit. I actually made these a long time ago for some 1/72 scale Japanese.

Actually, try this:
