You were asked – TMP link

Does TMP fairly represent the totality of miniature wargamers?

35% said "yes"
24% said "no, other"
9% said "no, because too many American gamers here"

A very "cleverly" constructed poll, well done ;)

Polling is an art not a science

I would respectfully disagree.
I think TMP represents an aspect of the hobby but it doesn't represent the "totality" of miniature wargamers, and sometimes based on past incidents that have happened here due to meltdowns, flame wars, trolls, and other issues that this site doesn't need to be involved in, I am glad that it doesn't represent the totality of miniature wargamers.
Most of us couldn't care less about some of the past stuff that has gone on here, and a few things have been questionable/quasi legal which gives it attention that isn't needed.
We just want to buy, paint, and play with our toy soldiers and have fun with like minded people.
YMMV and probably does.
Game on…

There is a lot to know about polling, and I know very little of it. But I'm pretty sure if you want to know if people *think* TMP represents the hobby you have to poll the hobby, not TMP. And then you only know what people think.

And umm, 65% said No…

miniMo is correct. Add up all of the, "no," answers, and the tally is, 65% --> No. Cheers!

Only yes could win with all the subdivisions of no being treated as equal responses.

Add up all the no responses and they out weigh yes.

Flawed poll.

Not a flawed poll (for that reason), flawed analysis.

As you point out, nothing in the poll prohibits adding the different "no" responses.

I wouldn't say a flawed poll, either. Whether or not a poll is satisfactory is a function of its purpose (just like a wargame …).

If the purpose of this poll were to inform world leaders on decision making, it would probably leave a lot to be desired. If the purpose is to ignite discussion among the members of TMP, its perfectly fine.

I personally like the fact that I can choose "all of the above" and "none of the above" in the same poll. Too many analyses just assume the Law of the Excluded Middle is valid in their case …
