This short tale by Arthur Conan Doyle is really Edwardian as it occurs after Her Majesty's death during the dawn of flight. It uses the device of a recovered journal (grandpa of found footage?) It features a rare appearance in science fiction of non-E.T. objects. Aerial organisms could threaten aeronefs. |

Yes! The plane used and title image are a bit off. The plane in the story is a monoplane. |

Possible miniatures might be found among small jellyfish toys that might be mounted on flight stands to menace 1/144th aircraft. |

Nice! Arthur Conan Doyle also wrote a lot if historical action-adventure fiction, like the Tragedy of the Korosko (tourism steamboat on the Nile hijacked y Jihadis during a Madi uprising set in 1895), and his most excellent, impeccably researched "White Company" series set during the 100 Years War. link |

@rvandusen "It features a rare appearance in science fiction of non-E.T. objects. " Not least, proto-dino-drama-`The Lost World'- ooh, _and_ 'The Terror of Blue John Gap'! |

Actually, Wessex Games' Aeronef's expansion, The Captain's Handbook, ends with a scenario starting with a quote from 'Horror of the Heights', and the suggestion of a White Line airship attacked enroute to Miami as passing Bermuda. I will point out this was the example of a section entitled Aerofauna, suggesting players invent even more. Doug PS The device of finding lost documents, diaries, journals, correspondence goes way back, though a lot of work goes into this one, i.e. missing pages, bloodstains, change in writing. Verisimilitude of Verisimilitude! ;->= |

I have used toy jellyfish as aerofauna before. Mounted on flying stands they can be quite effective. |
