Yep, Sharpe is back on TV.
Series 1, Episode 1, Sharpe's Rifles, followed by Episode 2, Sharpe's Eagle, is on the ITV4 channel Sunday 10th December, starting at 3.50pm.
Now I don't want to hear anyone moaning about how inaccurate Sharpe is and that he didn't really capture an Eagle! LOL

Moaning:

Sharpe is inaccurate but I watch it anyway because it is entertaining.

It is also on Amazon I believe.

Thanks, I just watched the first episode for the third or fourth time! Great stuff.

Yes, Sharpe is inaccurate, but the central character and his Chosen Men are fictitious, not real people. The stories have exciting, entertaining plots and the characters are sympathetic and well-acted. As an entertainment with a military historical background it is, IMHO, far superior to Ridley Scott's Napoleon because one can enjoy watching it again.

If the Sharpe series had the budget of Napoleon movie it probably would have been much better.

I just really liked seeing a regimental attack shown with about 20 men. Like my tabletop. :)

That is a fantastic observation

What I could never figure out is the French cavalry. In at least the first two episodes, they appear to be lancers with covered shakos, but no lances?

This is what bothered you? What about the French cavalry dressed in wolf pelts? Or the lame "Vive L'Empereur" chants from troops who sounded like theyd just woken up.

Someone should do a study on just how much that series did in the UK to convince their viewers that 5 men in the British army defeated Napoleon.

Hey, those 4 of those 5 men can keep Sean Bean alive for an entire series — they're good!
