A mere 1 year later, my request for a 1/144 board is coming up for a vote.

We already have and use this board (10mm WWII), so adding a 1/144 cross-period board now might just be confusing.

OTOH, those of us who like 1/144 are quite a bit pickier than the general 10mm crowd, and this board only covers one historical period.

Opinions?

Yellow Admiral. There are 10mm gamers all over the place now that have entered into multiple periods besides WWII. If the board is entitled something to the effect that it's where all who game in that size can post their questions, ideas and hints then I think we will be surprised at the responses and participation! My friend who imports Pendraken (and now AIM range) has been struggling to keep stock on hand. Period sales run the gambit. Because his Dark Horse Hobby website shows on-hand quantities and his discounts and shipping policies, he tries to anticipate demands from sales history. Based upon just Pendraken sales, I think it's safe to say that we have a decent following of 10/12/144th gamers here on The Miniatures Page. Even if just one board like minded gamers can check in to would be an improvement! Having to scan the many "period" focused boards for new articles in our scale would no longer be so time consuming sifting thru postings that may have a NIQ (non-interest quota). I voted for it and I hope more people will do the same. A lot has happened in the past year when you first floated the idea.

I've gotten excellent service from Dark Horse Hobbies these past couple years – couple of times I've bought out his Pendraken buildings stock when the stuff shows up on the website. :)

I think a general 10mm board for all period would go over better than calling it 1/144th.

A mere 1 year later…

Typical waiting time for a poll request. grin

Poll is here: TMP link

I thought you were arguing that 1:144 is 12mm, not 10mm?

I thought 1 year was pretty fast for a poll request.

Other than maybe something like 54mm, I think all of the scale sub forums dilute an already niche hobby. Nor are there enough posts to make it a burden to ignore what you are not interested in, especially if people put a scale/size (if needed) in the title of their post.

Not my call. If it were, boards would break by period OR scale, not both, and it would be consistent throughout TMP. Anyway, 10mm vs 12mm is much too fussy.

I would vote for a 1/144 board but to be honest the WW2 10mm Board is becoming more of a 10mm,12mm,1/144 board anyway.

Personally I would love to see a board called 1/144 to get away from the dreadful 10mm and 12mm folk who cant even get that right. Many of the early 10mm figures were 12mm while the vehicles were sizes for 10mm figures, how pathetic is that!

At least with a board called 1/144 we can call out the poor sculptors who appear to have no understanding of the term scale. We can measure them say against Jane's data for many vehicles and for older periods against established norms for the race and date of the older periods being represented.

It is clear in the UK the medieval houses had smaller doors as the height norms were not the same so we can scale appropriately and get some real rational. Not a meaningless undefined length with no real definition of what it is supposed to represent.

Rant Over ;-).

I am, and it is. But I am also opposed to fracturing the conversations of my near-religionists across the "10mm" faith into scale precision fanatics, so I'd rather not have parallel "10mm" and "12mm" boards in the same history boards. I am quit picky about the miniatures myself, but I still like to see what other people are doing in the 10/12mm oeuvre. Thus my ambivaelnce.

In any case, my request was voted down, so this topic is closed. On to the next request! grin

how can you be a scale precision fanatic, a scale is a scale not an approximate scale. The problem is sculptors have no understanding of the term scale. We aought to have a board for the "No scale intended crowd" and leave sane folk to have models that are compattable on the basis they are to the same scale.

Hey I placed the very first post that wasn't the Editor here:) I am finally first some place.

And the first posting is exactly why I voted against a separate board. Interesting information on Victrix 88 and halftrack and crew as well as other comments on Victrix and no mention here where I would logically look for the information. Just further fragmenting. Will we now see a "true" scale 1/72nd board and 1/76th scale board and 1/108th scale board and a 1/100th scale board and……

That was my worry as well.

New boards fracture conversations. That can be a good thing when a board is too full of simultaneous mutually exclusive topics, but it's a bad thing in a niche board with a small audience and more quiet than chat.

The number of us who are deadly serious about one scale to the exclusion of all others is so small I can count them on one finger (and his forum ID is Ushcha grin). Most of us just consider a scale to be a general background requirement for establishing a collection, and will accept some variation when there are few/no acceptable alternatives.
