That gal is built like a wrestler. Geisha's were specifically chosen to be willowy. If the idea of the face paint was to make her out to be a Kabuki dancer, they failed. She looks more like one of the blue-faced Shinto demons. The Geisha's wore white face paint if at all. |

The function of a geisha is being a hostess. For sex you look for a courtisane (dressed the difference is easy: a geisha has her bow on the back, a courtisane has her bow on the front (easier to be undressed ;-)). So this is clearly a courtisane! |

Good catch. Then the blue face is even more bizarre/disturbing. From the looks of it, the bow isn't necessary in the undressing… And she still looks like a wrestler, which may be a desirable thing for a courtesan. |

It's very well done. I believe that it is a shinobi who has disguised herself as a courtesan to get close to a target and is now in the distraction-before-assassination phase of the operation. Or it might be a demon. |
