Starting a project based on the conflict in Kenya in early 1950's. I think I can get the military figures I need. Have many which I can re-purpose. What I need are "settlers." These are armed farmers, men and women with rifles and even smg (sten and stirling).

So, who makes armed rural civilians from the 1950s? Any Mau Mau types also. Thanks

I can't vouch for Grubby's service though.

Bad Squiddo has some women who I think would do nicely, especially as the clothing and hairstyles would be within period.

Bob, what about IRA figures? As for that one Britannia family, just vary the hair and clothing colors.

EP, thanks for reminding me about Bad Squido. I have all of those figures in my VBCW collection -- Land Girls and Women's Institute -- but did not think of them for 1950's Kenya. These will work.

Nick, are there IRA figures of women?

I don't think so. Another option are the plastic sets, especially Great Escape Gunfighters (male and female sets), and Wargames Atlantic French Resistance. You can usually buy single sprues.

You'll make something of value, I'm sure.

Oberlindes Sol LIC !

Nick, I do have the War-games Atlantic figs, good thought.

Oberlindes Sol good one.

Bobgnar, Have you found any figures for the Mau Mau?

Someone had made figures for Kikuyu but for an earlier period. I think it was the Miniature Wargames people late 1980s early 1990s

Dan, I have lots of modern armed native African warriors from my Congo, 1960s games. Must eliminate those with AKs, Also many in tribal dress/weapons. I am told that Keelmen Miniatures is making specific Mau Mau figures but cannot get contact.

For armed civilians I starter to pick up some from resistance/partisans miniatures from Warlord, West Wind, Foundry and other

The Wargames Atlantic Resistance figures have been mentioned and would, with an African head, make better Mau Mau than settlers IMHO.

Thanks ep, but who makes African heads? I have lots of Euro heads.

I think the best option would be the Perry's NNC head set:

A nice variety of caps, hats, and head bands that wouldn't look out of place in 1950s East Africa. The only thing I would say isn't 100% usable out of the tin are the ones with stiffened head rings, but those could be made to work pretty easily.

EP, excellent find. I did not know of these. A bit pricey -- $23 USD inc postage, minus VAT .
I can cut the top of head off on some and replace with Brodie (dishpan) helmet for home guard. Also, the short fez is also worn by them, upper back right

This project is shaping up nicely.
