MRS Bunkermeister and I went to see Godzilla Minus One this evening and it is far and away the finest Godzilla movie I have ever seen and I have seen all but a couple of the most recent US made ones.

Story, special effects, history, were all great, it was not merely a good Godzilla movie, it was a great movie.

I have heard it is only playing for a week, don't know it that's true.

Looks good. Like the original.

That looks interesting. My local theater only has it for a week as well. Unfortunate.

I also was able to see Godzilla minus 1 movie. Agree with everything Bunkermeister has said. I was able to see it at a Imax screen from the second row seat. My neck is still sore from looking up. Loved the seen of Godzilla vs. a Japanese heavy cruiser. Highly recommend you see it!

Deucey it is very similar in many ways to the original, but improved. The science makes better sense, and the people are more three dimensional.

79thPA Japanese films are often only carried for a week, but maybe due to the success of this one it will be out longer, but do try and see it, the scenes with the Japanese WWII equipment are worth it.

Thank you JM.

I hope to see this,, though a theater is out of the question at this point. I wish I could watch it with friends in Japan.

If it wasn't for this post, I wouldn't have even known about the movie.

I decided to go to the late shpw last night as it was about the only time I had available. Overall, I think it is okay. The Godzilla scenes were good, but too much time between action sequences. For me, too much drama; not enough Godzilla.

Very much worth seeing. With some very good acting, which for a Godzilla movie, is really saying something.

Saw it today with my brother-in-law as my Christmas gift to both of us. We both thought it was great. Personally, I thought the human storyline gave the film an added depth— I really cared about the characters and saw the personal impact of Godzilla (really a stand-in for war) on these people. Very well done, and superbly acted— and yes, for a Godzilla movie, that's saying something, but in this case it's absolutely true— these were the sort of performances you'd expect in a serious period piece. So it winds up not just being another "Giant Monster Smashes Stuff, But Psuedo Science Wins" movie (not that there's anything wrong with that). Instead, you get a very human story with remarkable growth for all the characters, which also includes a big stompy monster.
(And a very well done stompy monster, too. Effect nominations should be in the works… but I think award nominations for acting should also be part of that.)

I think this is the best Godzilla movie I have ever seen, including the original. Highly recommended, for both big stompy monster movie fans and general movie fans, too.

Without giving anything away, I loved the inclusion of the very real end-war Japanese military prototype. I had to look it up, and was delighted to find it was a real thing. (Not saying what it is, because SPOILER, but if you're a fan of WWII history and military technological development, you'll be well pleased.)

Great movie. My best of the year (not that I've seen that many…)
