I've never understood the idea of an abandoned game. |

The title is clickbait but the warning that the new limited edition clear models are a trap is a good one. |

She just goes on and on, and life is short. If you have something I can read, please let me know. My thoughts also. Easier to get the important points somewhere like this thread, in this case that nothing is happening to GW's LOTR game at this point in time. |

Way too long to get to whatever point that she was trying to make. |

I've switched over to Medbury Miniatures for my future LOTR needs. They have some really nice stuff and their prices can't be beat. Tricked out my dwarven expeditionary force for Moria that way. E.g., 3 vault warden teams for $15 USD complete, as opposed to $15 USD apiece for GW, if you can even find one. Be even cheaper when I start 3D printing next year. |

His videos are terrible clickbait, always very negative and hyperbolic with little positive to add. |

Its the thing it seems that many you tube videos have to use shouty titles to get the required attention Anyone challenged by another point of view for example is always DESTROYED Or your favourite TV show has been KILLED by someone Not at home to Mr Nuance |

I haven't watched the video – I kind of already know how it will go But – even if the premise of the thread heading were true – so what? There was LOTR gaming before GW – certainly several rule sets in the early 1970s – and there will be LOTR gaming after(if) GW drop out of it. This isn't even the first time GW did LOTR. And if one wants to play the GW game in the future – well, there's no lack of rulebook copies (I've got….mmm…six, maybe seven….with hardly any difference between them – they came with the different starter sets), and all the figures can be had from any number of manufacturers (do it in 1/72nd with Dark Alliance plastics and save a fortune! They even look like the movie designs – and therefore the GW figures – if that matters to you!). Her schtick isn't unique – it's endless "doom and gloom and it used to be better yesterday" and….it's quite funny for that reason. This is a great time to be gamer, there are certainly aspects I liked about the "good old days" but I'm self-aware enough to recognise nostalgia when I see it. All the claims that GW are killing their own games have proven to be incorrect – they get bigger and bigger. Will they collapse one day? Who knows? Who cares? Why all the angst? As Shakespeare had it - It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. |

"Each side rolls a d6 and the higher score wins" is their best game? |
20thmaine | 05 Dec 2023 4:24 a.m. PST |
Ah, but some of them can roll 7 on a D6. And the best fighter wins all draws! I do like the game, it works really well for Medievals as well (leave out the magic) |

The things she slightly overlooks is that GW are constrained to the parts of Tolkien's work represented within the LOTR/Hobbit films. So, once you've done the shire, the elves, rohan, gondor, Mordor and Isengard then….you've kind of done everything. Early on they did campaign books to cover the bits of LOTR the book that Jackson didn't film, not sure if they are still available. To really expand the range without just redoing all the figures they've already done they need to expand the licence to cover the first and second ages…until then slight tinkering and impressive diorama models and scenery is about all there's left to add. I'd like the first and second age figures – but until Peter Jackson tells GW what they look like…probably not going to happen. |

Peter Jackson tells GW what they look like…probably not going to happen. Jackson doesn't own any rights to the 1st and 2nd Age of Middle Earth. |

We do have that little bit in The Fellowship with the warriors of the Last Alliance representing the end of the second age. What I really meant was the GW licence covers the current film representation. Until we get films for The fall of Gondolin (can't believe we don't have that in production yet!) and so on then there isn't a lot of new figures that GW can add at the moment (more poses of orcs, more poses of Rohan, but not another six Balrogs or an army of Dragons, or different Elvish armies to fight each other). Basically, they've done everything (and a little bit more – like Bombadil) from the six films their licence covers. |
