I'm looking for a hex based Napoleonic game that also simulates the pros-cons of CLS and Morale. Commands & Colors: Napoleonics is great fun, but I'd like to have something with a litle bit more depth in how it handles CLS specifically. I've been looking at Black Powder, Blücher and Lasalle 2nd edition as I have a lot of experience with Warhammer Fantasy Battles 4th-8th edition, but I have concluded that to be able to get more people to enjoy this, I need it to be easy to calculate distance with the use of hexes. PS. I see that Blücher has a hex movement variant, and I would love to hear that Lasalle also has something like this. Thanks!

Not seen such a variant for Lasalle, and it would be tricky since reduced move is only 1 BW, which would mean a 4 base unit occupying 4 hexes. With such small hexes I'm not sure you gain anything over just measuring |

Cold Steel & Cannister is a grand tactical game and it uses squares. Clean system, simple to understand. Uses a simple orders system based on objectives that really simulates the ebb and flow of a battle. |

I have played LaSalle several times and benefitted from a superb GM for those games who takes time to explain the options to both sides as we learn the system. It is frankly an incredibly easy one to play,, yet difficult to master from my experience. I would not tinker with it trying to force it into a hex or any grid system. the use of the Base Widths as a measurement of movement and fire to me is simply elegant. Uniform bases for all the units a measuring stick marked off in base widths and you are good to go. |

It really isn't difficult to convert any set of rules to use hexes, but you will have to deal with some boardgamerisms like stacking limits and how you deal with rules which rely excessively on minute differences in facing and move distances etc. |

Compared to some (most?) rulesets, Lasalle 2 is fairly liberal with measuring movement. By that I mean you just measure start point to end point, no need to worry about measuring wheels, oblique moves etc. As an aside, I think it may have been Bloody Big Battles that introduced this approach. |
