I'm fortunate enough to visit Vienna soon, but a fairly short trip. I doubt I'll have time for both, but if I can make one battlefield museum, should it by Aspern-Essling or Wagram?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Agree with Flashman, chock full of Napoleonic era uniforms, weaponry, couple of eagles iirc, and that is before you even look at the 30YW, WW1&2 galleries

I also agree with Flashman.

I visited this museum for the first time this year and was really impressed. A fabulous setting and the most fantastic exhibits. Absolutely not to be missed.

From the map it appears that Aspern and Essling are both built over anyway.

I did Essling granary, Aspen church and Wagram museums in one day. They are not that big and close enough to get to by public transport.

I made sure to go on a Sunday when all three were open

Spent most of a full day at the Military History museum though.

Agree with recommendation for the HGM, it is magnificent. If you do fancy either of the relatively small museums at Deutsch-Wagram or Aspern Essling do lookup opening times in advance. They have very restricted opening times.

Even my wife and daughter found the Army Museum interesting – it's a must!

2nd the Army museum. And if time…Aspern-Essling and have a look at terrain around Lobau Isld.

As mentioned, I have a feeling that the battle site museums are closed at this time of year. Even when open, it is only for a few hours on a Sunday morning. I went to both at Aspen- Essling and they were good but the HGM is excellent. One oddity is you have to buy a ticket to take photographs.

AE is pretty much built over with suburban housing. I had a devil of a time trying to find the Granary. If you are limited for time, see the museum.
