Hello everyone,

This dynasty which lasted from 744 to 656 BC has the particularity of being uniquely Nubian, originating from the kingdom of Napata.

These kings are great worshipers of the god Amon, of Napata.

Their origin will make them nicknamed black pharaohs, Ethiopian pharaohs or even Kushite pharaohs, so much so that this dynasty is sometimes also described as the "25th Ethiopian dynasty", and one of its lower representatives, Taharqa, "Ethiopian".

This dynasty straddles the Third Intermediate Period and the Late Period.

As it is more original than the dynasties that preceded the XXIst Dynasty, now I am also looking for documentation with lots and lots of illustrations and why not 25 mm figurines for the Egyptian armies of this 25th dynasty called Ethiopian, thank you.

This is the dynasty called "Kushite Egyptian" in the DBA, DBMM, and other Army Lists. The best textbook is Morkot's "The Black Pharoahs" – link

There are a couple of illustrations in Stillman and Tallis' WRG "Armies of the Ancient Near East", if you can get hold of a copy.'

See also the analysis of some Assyrian tile illustrations of Kushite prisoners in Tallis's "Esarhaddon in Egypt: An Assyrian-Egyptian battle scene" – link

Much more than that and I think you're on your own…

Would the armies look much different than those that preceded it or those that came after? I would assume there would be a lot of Nubian troops brought in to help the Pharoh stay in power, but I'd assume the rank and file Egyptians would look the same.

GurKhan – thank you. I wasn't aware of that last paper.
