Dougal Dixon's books: After Man and Man After Man are classics of the Post-Apocalyptic genre. Since nothing lasts forever and it's likely that humans will someday be removed as the dominant organism on Earth, eventually the earth will go back to Precambrian times or, more optimistically, new organisms will arise to fill the niches left by the removal of extant species. This creation. destruction cycle has happened at least five times. Perhaps the worst was the Great Dying that marked the Permian-Triassic boundary in geology, about 252 million years ago.Does anyone include new life in their apocalyptic settings?

Assuming that you are not talking about microbes of some kind, I think if you are gaming far enough into the future that new organisms develop, you are probably playing science fiction or moderns, depending on your take on things.

True, the time scale would be long, as opposed to immediately after the event in question. Isn't it all a branch of science fiction? Modern humans are "only 300,000 years old according to conventional science. A mere blink of an eye when one considers the proposed age of the earth.

I used to work with a stout guy who said that on a planetary scale, he was both small and young.

I do have apes with guns that I need to work into something post-apoc.

I wonder if anyone makes miniatures of his rabbit-deer. Those would be nice to have in 28mm
