Having recently returned from my third visit to Waterloo, I was much impressed (and sometimes depressed) but what has taken place. On the positive side, beneath the hideous Lions Mound is a great museum. I have been selling my miniatures collection and realize that there is a large overlap of posters who are interested in history and in figures. At the museum one encounters a fabulous table top display featuring thousands of painted figures done in remarkably historic detail. For example, the table dedicated to the Prussians has exactly those who really attacked Placenoit. Even the details (units still wearing their 1813-1814 uniforms) were accurate. So, if anyone want to revisit, my advice is Go! Urban sprawl remains a force, so there is no time like soon. Cheers, James Napoleon Books |

Good tips James. PS. Just re-reading your "October Triumph" on 1806 for the 4th time. Masterful presentation of the subject matter. You write a great history James, many, many thanks. |

Great to hear your opinion on Waterloo as I'm considering another (3rd) trip as I haven't been since before the bicentenary. As you say it seems a mix of good and bad news – while Mont St Jean has been saved and very appropriatey turned into a 'hospital' museum; Quatre Bras has lost the buildings at the crossroads and 'development' has encroached further onto the field of battle. Like nsolomon99 I have also recently re-read your 1806-1807 trilogy – anything new in the pipeline? |

Thank you for the update. I've only been once to the battlefield but have been thinking of going back. Like the others, I truly enjoy your books and hope you have something new coming out soon! |

I saw the museum at the bicentenary and can add that it is very well done and mostly underground, so it did not add a new building to the mix. They tried to save the QB farm from the wrecking ball but to no avail. I saw it years ago when it was a disco! Some of the other buildings on the French end of the field are now preserved as part of a golf club. Geimoncourt is still there and a working farm, still in the hands of the same family too. (At least in 2015). |
