Probably been asked before (though not by me), and when I googled it, the one TMP poll that came up was like 12-13 years old, so perhaps time for a new request.
Anyway, hoping folks will make some suggestions on a suitable set of rules to try.
Scale: 15mm
Not Flames of War: This is in no way a critique of FoW, I already have that set, just looking to try something new.
Basing: Would like something that uses the same bases as FoW as I have a good size collection (US Para, Finnish Winter War, Germans and Russians) and am not interesrted in rebasing anything.
Units: tanks, infantry and some guns
Complexity: As I get older (earlyt 60s) I find that complex rules don't appeal to me as much anymore. It doesn't help that I am a soloist and don't have anyone to help me with rules. So looking for something of moderate complexity – something simpler than FoW would be good.

No clue why it was listed twice

What level of game are you interested in? Skirmish, tactical, grand tactical, operational?

I use exactly the same 15mm stuff for each and all of these, but running a rifle company is very different to commanding a Panzer Corps.

Battlefront:WW2 is a great set, from the same guys as Fire and Fury.
Each base is a squad, each model 2 or 3 vehicles. Very good integration of infantry and armour, very good artillery rules

Playing a supported infantry battalion (each base a section, 27 to the battalion approx) you have "'O' Group" which I like. Not to complex, supported by some good scenario books.
"I ain't been shot, mum" (IABSM) is company level but may be on the complex side. Peter Pig's PBI II would work too, it's grid based which might seal or break the deal.

Here is the detail on PBI.
It can be bought as pdf or printed.
If you buy a set you can also have the playtest version of the next edition that we are working on. The next version is aot a yera away.

Another vote for "Crossfire!"

Remarkable rules set that emphasizes tactical planning with a minimum of "playing the rules."

Blitzkrieg Commander. I use my FOW minis for it.

BuckeyeBob20 Nov 2023 4:54 p.m. PST

the following work well with FoW based units:
Iron Cross by Great Escape Games
Battlegroup Panzergrenadier by DCR Brown
BattleFront ww2 By Fire and Fury
IABSM by two fat lardies
Five Core Company Command by Ivan Sorensen

There is Company Commander:

Here;s the Victrix link:

The game plays on an iPhone (they are furiously working on Android) and looks awesome. There are some videos on their website. Designed for Victrix 12mm line, I see no reason that 15mm wouldn't work.
This is cutting edge!

Crossfire

The Lindy Beige tutorials provide an excellent flavour of this ruleset, starting with this video:

'Hit the Dirt' provides more scenarios.

Steven Thomas has an excellent website:

And there is a great IO Group that provides support and can answer any questions:

I've enjoyed playing Crossfire but I prefer larger scale games – battalion plus armour – and Crossfire seems to fall apart a bit there. 'O' Group is good, and my current favourite, but I'm not sure it would work for solo play because of the initial stages emphasis on depicting battlefield uncertainty with ambushes and scouting/patrol rules.

Check out Storm of Steel Wargaming on YT , as he has some solo O Group AARs on there .

Battlegroup and no need to rebase as probably a thousand ex-FOW players have joined the Facebook group. The game was written with 15mm & 20mm in mind. Latest poll showed more 15mm players then 20mm now. The Facebook group is very helpful when asking rule questions also.

I'm beta testing a set of rules that are largely what you are talking about if you're interested.
