Thinking of building a 28mm Spanish Napoleonic force for 2024.
Looking for suggestions on miniatures and a good read on the army at various times in the peninsular.
150 figs more or less. Any plastic sets yet? I read somewhere that the Warlord boxes are resin?

I would suggest Front Rank to anyone starting a Spanish army for the Peninsular. Beautiful figures that paint up very nicely.

Perry brothers

Uniforms are crazy. Just about every color used at some time

There is so much variety, that I would pick something specific to do. Sharp practice with guerillas, Militia etc for instance

Although there are lots of different cavalry uniforms, there was a massive shortage of horses and unlikely that they fielded more than a squadron, which you could use as an excuse to have lots of different units represented

Look at olicana's posts, like this one TMP link . He just finished a good sized 28mm Spanish army.

The most important thing you probably need to decide is what period of the Spanish Army you are going to choose as their uniforms changed massively. Early Peninsula War, middle or late. There is more information available for the early period 1808 and then from 1813 on than the middle of the war.

Just bear in mind that some of the information available is not correct for 1808 as many Spanish units did not receive their prescribed uniforms and were wearing older ones.

Regarding books the three Osprey books are not bad although again there are some errors. For a general overview of the army you have Charles Esdailes book.

This Spanish website link has a lot of info too.

I second Front Rank miniatures which are now owned by Gripping Beast. They also have a sale on right now. Great deal and the figures are cheaper if you are not required to pay the VAT Tax.
