Very logical.

Well, yes. But GW doesn't sell historicals. And how can they tell what the official rules are if they don't have a GW date stamp? Who will run their however-many points tournaments, and see that only approved castings are on the table?

I officially gave up conversion efforts when a kid told me he couldn't possibly buy ACW figures if he didn't know what franchise they supported. Once they shake the addiction, I'll do what I can to help.

How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?

Only one. But the light bulb has to want to change.

Lots of people, including myself, do both. Fantasy and sci-fi (both GW and other companies) have gone side by side with historical gaming all my hobby life. They aren't really different hobbies even though some people including modern GW would like people to think they are. I love history I enjoy historical gaming but it is restrictive to my imagination which is why I like 40k, and other fantasy and sci-fi games, as I can paint and model miniatures any way I like and not be told my button lace is the wrong colour by some guy online.

Rupert, my objection in this context is not to F&SF, but to franchise gaming, with GW the prime example. If you want to invent uniforms, fine. It dates back at least as far as Charge! And there are Halflings, Squats and Red Martians on my own shelves.

It's the franchise system I object to. Watching grown men announce that they have to rebuild or even retire armies they love and play rules they don't agree with because someone at GW or Battlefront has issued a fuehrerbefehl is depressing and a little embarrassing. If you let the people who sell you castings dictate your rules, be careful. Sooner or later, they march everyone off a cliff

Robert I'm a fully signed up member of the Oldhammer gang I enjoy lots of older GW games I love 4Ok it's aesthetics and background but if I do play a game of 40k it's going to be 3rd edition certainly not 10th 🤮

Oh, good, Rupert. Try to convert the GW gang at the local game shop--and the old FOW group if you can find them. I feel so sorry for the little automatons sometimes. The shop owner says sooner or later each franchise makes a mistake, and then evidently everyone just quits. Going on with the previous version which they enjoyed seems to be a step too far.
