Picked up a copy of GWs old introductory Space Fleet game. Initially planned to use some of my Red Alert plastic vessels as proxies since the original vessels and follow up Battlefleet Gothic ones are long OOP, thin on the ground, and stupid expensive on eBay. But there's been a rise in the number of more Grim-dark proxies particularly 3D printed. I like Valiant miniatures BattleGroup Helios range but they are a little bit pricy – even though I don't need many. Anyone have any other recommendations? UK-based so shipping costs will probably render postage from the US budget destroying.

The BFG ships are a bit big compared to Spacefleet – I don't think they'd mix well.

3d printing seems to be the best fix. Perhaps custom designs to fit the look and size needed? Sadly, the big question is how?

Are the original Spacefleet expensive on eBay now? They used to be quite unloved…

Original Space Fleet metals seem to be around GBP£10 and upwards for 'buy it now' on eBay. Auctions are a bit more varied obviously. BFG seems to be even more so. Quality is also an issue the metals tend to be okay but the core set plastics seem to hard to get in decent condition

Thx for the heads up on size difference don't think I appreciated that.

There are some nice 3D prints around but again can be quit pricy to purchase (seem very much pegged to the aftermarket price of the actual BFG mini's) and probably scaled more for BFG.

Vanguard does do a rather good match for the original Gothic Battleship (need to check the measurements though)

Have you looked on Etsy for some 3d printed proxies? BFG-lookalike ships are everywhere on Etsy or Shapeways.

In the UK at least there is a lot of cross-over between Etsy and Ebay sellers of 3d printed stuff. Though I did find one different seller on Etsy with a limited range but slightly cheaper than other options. But will have to check sizing.

There is some nice stuff on Shapeways, I really fancied some of the TTA designs that were put up, but their pricing particularly postage has always put me off.

eBay can be wildly out there.

I recently picked up a pair of Shadow Hunters(Eldar) for less than $8 USD, and as I was buying several small things, shippage was next to nothing.

I actually always thought some of the Imperial designs would have made more sense as space 'High' elves, given the high round domes and hull curves.

Weirdly, a few of the Man O' War Slanesh felt the same…

Given the widening of scope I just experienced, I shall cogitate more. Maybe another look at recent Spelljammer offerings…

Yeah Ebay has always been more than a little bi-polar on pricing.

Vanguard miniatures also sell STL files if you have access to a 3d printer. Even though I was never a massive fan of Eldar ships they have some rather nice looking Space Elf designs for sale. Its the sails that did it for me.

The not-Imperial stuff for some weird reason puts me in mind of Stargate ships.
