I like odd periods, and this seems to be one. I am looking at doing 10mm since I have 10mm Prussians for 1870 in 10mm figured those would suffice. I bought the 1859 rules, not sure if I will use those or not, but Bruce's rules are always a great resource. However, since I know little of the armies then, what would be the difference between single and double rank infantry? Any other help is appreciated, books etc.

Didn't everyone have infantry in 2 ranks?

By 1864, most, if not all, European armies deployed in two ranks. Ahead might be a skirmish line that could be thick enough to seem like a formed rank. That could be a source of confusion.

Of course the Austrian ‘storm columns' are another thing altogether…
