Finally, the last French unit the salvaged balloon from Aboukir Bay, having survived the sinking and recover although a bit worse for wear. The French can now use it against the elusive Arab hordes. I made the stands detachable and made a extra set for Europe for fighting there also enjoy. There's more photos on my site. chuckazulu.blogspot.com

Does this have a function on the table in game terms or is it just eye candy?

The use of the balloon allows the French to reveal flank marches and hidden units which gives the French more leeway in planning an attack or defense and allows the French to reduce the effect of a surprise situation. They were used early in the Revolution and because of the difficulty of maintaining them in the field led to their abandonment later in the Napoleonic wars although perhaps Waterloo or some peninsular battles would have been different if one was present.
